I saw a little discussion on the AB.net IRC and also got an email about The Anime Blog Awards. Nominations just started, so if you own an anime blog you can register on the site and nominate a few blogs (not your own). There are quite a few categories, and the top 7 in each category will be eligible for voting.
I think it’s nice that the anime blogosphere has its own little awards page, and perhaps some newer bloggers will be able to garner some attention through this contest. Er, someone please nominate us, although to be honest it will be difficult for SS!AB to win in any categories, since there are some really popular sites in the Episodic and Team categories. It was actually kinda fun going through the blogroll and trying to nominate sites I liked. I tried to put in some lesser known sites when possible, but for some categories the competition is going to be really stiff.

I wonder if this will be a source of lots of dorama?
Let’s hope not, I will be very saddened. A bit of dorama is fine, just not too much of it!
I do hope many many anime bloggers will take to it. The popular blogs, the small blogs, everyone ^^ More plans are coming soon. ^^
I’m quite ambivalent about this. Though the intention is good, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The blogger who really reeeeeally doesn’t think that one’s own blog is worthy of an award hasn’t yet been born. Expect MOAR doramaz when some blogs aren’t nominated – already the awards category taxonomy will make some of us unhappy.
It would be a shame for this to be diverted by dorama, but I know what you all mean. I’m glad you cannot nominate yourself for any categories, since it forces the commenter to look outside his/her blog and think about what 3 blogs also do a great job in each category.
It’s the first year, so there are less categories (no siscon blog category for Stripey), but just to be nominated is a nice pat on the back. I saw a few URLs that I wasn’t familiar with, and I know I will probably check them out to see why other bloggers thought highly enough of the sites to nominate them. I wonder how voting will be handled, though.
Looking at the current categories, I for one don’t think HnTd deserve any of those awards.
Maybe if there’ll be a “Most gothloli-meido-siscon” blog award or “Damn, he just WOULDN’T retire!” blog award in 2009, HnTd may have a shot at the nominations.
BTW if I nominate Zyl’s HnSO, would it be considered nepotism? XD
That’s one think that I like about it, as well as finding out links that you wouldn’t have paid attention to beforehand. It helps to expand the community a bit, and I think that’s one of the main points of the awards. Or so I’d want Impz to think.
I hope that Rookie of the Year ends up getting a lot of different nominations. I feel those sites have the most to gain from a nomination. Unfortunately, a lot of sites make it difficult to tell when they started. There were several blogs that are probably 11 months old that I didn’t nominate because I wasn’t sure if they were less than one year old.
Yes, do check back on the site. We have included more features to promote random blogs who have joined in the initiative. ^^ Please keep on promoting the event, and we hope for as many blogs to participate.
@Stripey: I voted you for “Most Noe the Moe fan”. Yes, you are in a two way battle with Crusader for this. By the way, it’s not nepotism. You can, if you want.
Voting will be done anonymously but you still have to be registered to vote (to prevent people from knowing who voted who. Tends to give shit drama). More details after April 22th since the official launch is April 1st.
