Unfortunately, Horo and Lawrence get cornered while they are making their escape, and one of the thugs stabs Lawrence in the arm. Horo manages to catch a whiff of fresh air, but in the end the exit turns out to be an old well (which they cannot climb out of). Out of the mob steps Chloe, and she reveals that she is plotting to help Medioh Company in order to get the wheat tariff abolished and to bring huge profits to Pasroe. Chloe asks Lawrence to join her, but he reveals that he made a contract with Horo, and if there is one thing that scares him more than being beaten to a pulp by thugs, it’s a lawsuit over breach of contract.

No one likes getting rejected around Valentine’s Day, so Chloe orders the thugs to kill Lawrence and capture Horo (to be turned over to the Church). Unfortunately, in an oddly placed sight-gag, Horo starts sucking Lawrence’s bodily fluids as the rest of the thugs urge them to get a room. Horo then turns into a wolf and gives everyone a concussion, saving Lawrence. At first Lawrence is really scared of Horo’s wolf form, but then he remembers that she usually looks like a hottie, and so he tells her that she can’t leave without paying for the expensive clothes she just destroyed. In the end, everything works out, although the profit ends up not being very big (accursed service charges!), and Horo spends about 10% of it on clothing and apples.

Um, let’s see, the Milone Company just made less than 0.33% profit and faced huge risks. Considering how they got tricked by Horo over the furs, can anyone explain to me how the Milone Company is still in business? I also didn’t understand that story about the fat guy trying to feed random people to the devil. At least I now know why the show is called Spice and Wolf, since Lawrence took his pitiful 980 silver profit and used it to buy peppers.

This episode was much more exciting at least, in that we got to see Lawrence in action. For a merchant, he was pretty spry, and I also liked watching his interaction with Horo. I wonder if he will eventually be able to deal with her wolf-form without going into the fetal position, and I felt really bad for Horo for having to see how scared he was. The blood sucking scene was pretty funny, since there was no reason that Horo had to straddle him just to lick his arm.

Looks like they decided to get out of the wheat business.
