Even without hard proof that Hagino took out the probe, Shibariel sends out the powerful ship Kelbil after Blue. Kelbil fires powerful spears that look like ice lances, and Blue is badly damaged. However, before Kelbil can launch the coup de grâce, Hagino breaks curfew to devise a daring plan. By briefly phasing directly in front of Kelbil, Blue badly damages the enemy ship before phasing away.
At the same time, Akane gets some screen time and we find that she lived with her mom after her parents go divorced. When she came to the school, it was her first time reuniting with her father in 10 years. However, when the principal faints and has to go to the hospital, Akane is reluctant to visit her father. A random cat is eventually able to convince Akane to do the right thing, and the rest of the girls cover for her. In helping Akane stick it to the man, Hagino begins to understand the importance of having someone important.
There were some entertaining moments in this episode, but I didn’t really see the point of learning more about Akane. The story didn’t seem to fit in well with the tense game of cat and mouse that Blue and Kelbil were playing. Moreover, it didn’t make sense how Blue was unharmed by the little phasing trick that Hagino suggested. Perhaps Blue phased in fully shielded, while Kelbil had shields down. Poor Tsubael had to betray her people, and all for a “low level species”. Hey, sometimes the locals are hot.
I was blown away by Fabio-esque Fukumachi without the mustache. I also liked how Yuuko decided to just announce Michiko as the writer for the festival play instead of getting Michiko’s permission. I noticed that they showed Akane’s straw as one of those two-piece telescoping straws. Overall, this seemed like fluff inserted around the main story, so hopefully we’ll get back on track next time.

Just wanted to make a correction. “dual core” is a mistranslation. This fansub mistranslated “douhou” (compatriot) as “dual core”. They messed up badly. The actual line has Tsubael telling Hagino that Kelbil (not Gelbill) is a compatriot ship (not a dual core ship). Tsubael is concerned about it because she obviously doesn’t want to kill her countrywomen.
