Time Wasters

I have a confession to make; I was never able to master the “simple” art of pen-spinning, which seems to be quite popular. Certainly not for lack of effort; I’ve spent countless lectures fruitlessly flipping my pen into the face of the person sitting next to me, which I suppose was remarkable in its consistency. I become slightly irritated when people perform super flashy spins in front of my face – unless of course, it’s in a cheesy Youtube pen-spin video set to a j-rock soundtrack. I wouldn’t be surprised if an anime featuring the art of pen spinning was created, focusing on a young protagonist’s search for the ultimate spin.

Perhaps I can’t spin pens because I invested too many skill points into the spit-bubble shooting talent tree. I form a jellybean-sized bubble on my tongue and shoot it out with a quick breath, much like Impulse Gundam launching off of the linear catapult. Now, if only I could make my bubbles combine in mid-air…

On an unrelated topic, Epic Win had a post about Misao needing more screen time, which I totally agree with. Her voice is made of awesomeness with a touch of earthy fragrance and a hint of raspberries. Which is why I find this Misao sound byte generator hilarious. Click on the buttons (or type on your keyboard), and little voice clips will play. The fact that there are four versions of her saying “Hiragiiiii…” tickles me endlessly.

But undoubtedly the best is the very last one in the lower right corner. :P

“Hontou da” and “yattemiru?” also made me laugh a lot. ;D

pen spinning??!! I had a huge addiction to that a few weeks ago. I was trying to master where the pen flips around your thumb. but i could only do a few times right and then the rest would fail =P then i just made my own even though it’ very easy to do though… its just so addicting to do with my fingers whenever there not doing something. xD

Yeah, I am still incredibly bitter that I have never managed to level up beyond one complete rotation in my pen spinning skills. The skill points must have been allocated to the ‘humorous impersonation of boss/professor’ set.

Misao was great. I loved her mostly because she’s so good-natured. And of course, how badly Kagamin treats Misao (esp in the manga) shows how special Konata is to Kagami. :3

I understand you were ill, but how long did you spend on this Misao thing…? Moving on to other shameful news, I also cannot twirl a pen at all. The video was still awesome, and the opening part made me want to break down a faulty residence.

Chalk me up as one who never managed the pen twirl as well. That’s why I picked up a butterfly knife. I found those tricks are a little easier to practice. Of course, it’s not something you can do in class or at work or in a meeting…or any other public place really. :-/

You’re not alone – I can’t spin a pen for my life. I must really suck in the motor skills department of my brain. :P
