Kabitzin’s December 2007 List

Kabitzin on December 31, 2007 · in Progress Sheets

I was out of town for a week, and with all the holiday craziness, I’ve fallen a bit behind on several series. I think I may only carry Bamboo Blade and Shakugan no Shana into next season. I heard Shugo Chara is slated for 51 episodes, and I am scared of commitment. I will probably drop Shugo Chara since I don’t know if I can watch another 40 episodes of egg-chasing.

Top Five This Month:

  1. Minami-ke: Fantastic month as this series finishes strong. With comedy series, as long as the jokes are funny I don’t mind having new characters introduced at the end and loose ends left unresolved. I’m a little worried about how the other version of Minami-ke is going to turn out, though…
  2. Bamboo Blade: This show has been consistently entertaining, and it strikes a good balance between sport anime and everyday comedy anime. Here again is another show that does a good job introducing new characters.
  3. Shigurui:: Naturally the weirdness and the gore are still there, but I’m really getting intrigued by the storyline. How long will it take before we find out what happened to Gennosuke and Seigen? Also, Kogan Ryuu Dojo reminds me of the Cobra Kai Dojo, except with more bed wetting.
  4. Dragonaut: Shouldn’t the dragon eggs come with a random name generator? At the rate we are going, I predict it will only be a matter of time before we meet a powerful new dragon named D0uche or something. I continue to snicker every time Kazuki stands next to Widow and rants about Gio. What funny stories are Gio and Widow sharing on Castaway Island?
  5. Shakugan no Shana Second: Well, Pheles finally showed up. It only took about a month of foreshadowing. Once again Shakugan no Shana continues to be a series of short peaks and long valleys.

Rising:

  • None: I must not have watched enough anime this month.

Falling:

  • Gundam 00: Actually, the super-soldier factory was on the other side of town. The facility Allelujah destroyed was developing perma-goth-lolis. Also, Gundam hair greatly exceeded my expectations.

I actually never find Minami-ke very funny…i just watch it because of the characters and general feel of the show

That is the exact same #1 and #2 I have at the moment.. Bamboo and Minami are both just plain fun to watch.

Am I the only one who finds Minami-ke kind of lacking lately?

I mean, there’s only so much of crossgender jokes before I’m getting bored. And throughout the last episodes that seems to have been pretty much the entire setup. No, we don’t have a male crossdresser, now we have a female crossdresser aswell. Joy. And we have more “Kana is being stupid, Chiaki is calling her Bakayaro, both like Haruka. Duh” humor.

Sorry, it’s getting old for me. It was good in the beginning, but not recently.

Oh, but I fully agree with your Bamboo Blade recommendation :) … now that Satori has finally showed up (yay!), it’s time for more MiyaMiya coercion, and then, around ep14-15 I guess, Black Tama!

I actually don’t find the cross-dressing that funny, and I think Chiaki is boring on her own. I think what it really comes down to is if you like Kana or not; I find her hilarious but I can totally understand why some people might disagree.

I really need to catch up on Bamboo Blade and Minami-ke. A lot of episodes have past too.

Gundam 00 is still on my watching list. Well if you drop it I guess it’s your choice.

Obligatory comment in support of your viewing of Shigurui. Episode 10 is one of the best yet; as far as provocation goes, you can’t beat Fujiki sucking the blood out of his own wound and gobbing it all over blind Irako.

Anyway, you should blog it, you know us Sea Slugs! fans need more gore in our lives! :)
