An Albion force of 7 million men is closing in on the city, and Henrietta stubbornly decides to board the very last airship. The head priest wants Louise to use some Void magic mumbo jumbo to buy some time. Louise decides that someone has to protect the lives of Henrietta and the maids, and prevent the Albion soldiers from molesting Scarron. Before she goes off on her suicide mission, however, she buys a pair of magical Ekulerudamuru flowers for her impromptu wedding ceremony with Saito.

As they take their vows, the flowers bloom and begin to glow, signifying the bond between Saito and Louise. Louise is pretty lightweight, and passes out after one glass of wine (ok, it was the sleeping potion). Julio offers to give them an escape ride on his sweet dragon, but Saito just leaves Louise in Julio’s care, and goes off to Albion’s army base. In the attack, Saito is very badly wounded, and it looks like he meets his end in a massive volley of arrows and fireballs. Fortunately, a busty fairy who likes cute boys saves Saito just as she saved Guiche, in exchange for more screen time in season 3.

This was actually a pretty awesome episode, with a lot of emotion packed in. Even Julio was GAR for Saito by the end, and Saito clearly has some kind of incredibly powerful imba AOE aggro-lock move, because not one single commander in Albion’s army thought to go for the squishies fleeing the docks. I was also surprised at how few people Saito was able to take out. That couldn’t have been more than 150 soldiers, so the Albion commanders should have just left the Spartans and taken off with the other 6,999,700 soldiers to intercept the last airship. Although the Albion commanders were retarded, I take back what I said about Governor Sheffield’s plan, because it was really quite brilliant.

I didn’t mind having Saito survive, because that’s the sort of thing that fits in perfectly with the mood of Zero no Tsukaima. Of course with Saito safe, Louise is back to tsun tsun mode, and can’t believe that Saito was shacked up with busty Tiffania showing her how he got the nickname “Gandaflr, the Left Hand of God.” Hmm, I wonder what the right hand was doing. On a completely different note, it looked like Scarron was humping Louise over the railing while he was restraining her on the airship.

I’ve been waiting for this post for a long time…just so that I can say: Wow, those image captions are pretty funny.

So wait. There IS a season 3 coming up? Even if there is, I’m probably not watching it unless it’s a big, big improvement, though. I was pretty disappointed with this one.

There just has to be, don’t you think? They will probably keep extending this one in 12 episode chunks, since there is still plenty of light novel material to plunder from and mangle.

More big-breasted elf and less flat-chested tsundere please!

Count me as disappointed with this one. Louise’s tsun-tsun mode totally turned me off this season. Not enough dere-dere. And Saito’s big-chest fetish only made it worse.

If there’s a season 3 (likely)… god I hope it’s better than this one.

Well in Saito’s defense, they do explain that Saito actually had taken out about 1/3 of the 7 million. Although I don’t remember where they said it. I admit it looked like only a few, but don’t forget that he’d been fighting before the camera showed him kneeling in the grass. And that the dead could have been walked over by the survivors so it only looked like a few people were killed.
