Colbert leads the group on an assault, and his flashbangs work very well. Unfortunately, his allies ignore his instructions to not engage the enemies, and Benubiru easily takes out Kirche and Tabitha. Because of his fight with the Flame Serpent, Benubiru is actually blind, and so the flashbangs had no effect on him. Benubiru finds his way around by sensing differences in temperature, and is overjoyed because Colbert has the same temperature as the Flame Serpent.

The two start battling, with emo Agnes acting as a minor nuisance. Eventually Benubiru cannot deal with Agnes’ angst and tries to shoot her, only Colbert pushes her out of the way and takes the full force of the blast. As usual, however, Agnes cheats by stabbing Benubiru during a particularly vulnerable shounen moment. Agnes still wants to stab Colbert, and he agrees as long as she promises not to kill anyone else. However, before she can strike Colbert down, he passes away on his own. Later, Agnes finds a touching letter from Colbert, and delivers it to Saito.

While the episode was somewhat touching, there was still too much Agnes screen time. I understand that 20 years of angst is tough to take, but Colbert was feeling pretty guilty during those 20 years as well. It was interesting how Agnes couldn’t decide whether it was worth giving up stabbing to kill Colbert, and so she let her chance slip by. It remains to be seen who Agnes will stab next.

When did Colbert become Himura Kenshin? It’s too bad he never got to see Akihabara, and I wonder if his death will have any further repercussions. If only Colbert could have learned of the existance of Kira, I think his life would have been complete. Also of note was when Louise was able to replicate her rope-untying success on all the students. Was it void magic, or has Louise gotten some magical skills finally?

I thought the end was rather touching as well but for most of the episode, I found the cast rather wooden. Examples like Saito/Louise looking from afar instead of defending Kirche on the floor or taking evasive action to prevent Agnes from stabbing Colbert. Possibly nitpicks but such occasions really dull the intuitiveness of the characters rendering them more and more cardboard-like.

Plotwise, ZnT2 is feeling more and more like an OVA spinoff rather than a sequel with this much emphasis on the side-characters. Needs more Siesta and Henrietta making moves on Louise.. I mean Saito XD
