Eleonore kidnaps Louise in the middle of the night and throws Louise in jail. This is to prevent the young mage from trying to join Henrietta on the front lines. This incarceration turns out to be a blessing, as later that night the mercenary Benubiru takes a ragtag group to the Academy in order to take the remaining students as hostages (as they are the children of nobles). There’s not much of a fight, and almost everyone is rounded up; only Agnes and a handful of her squad, Kirche, Tabitha, and everyone in the jail (Colbert, Saito, and Louise) escape. Having seen something similar in Harry Potter, Colbert sends an SOS by owl-mail, and urges the students to flee.
Agnes tries to go all Rainbow 6 on Benubiru, but he’s a pro at these sorts of things, and detonates the Gunpowder Squadron’s bombs prematurely with some expertly placed fireballs. Forced to charge in, Agnes and her remaining women are easily disarmed, and Benubiru reminisces about the time he got to burninate the village of Danguteal. Agnes is all ready to explode in righteous fury, but Benubiru reveals that he was merely the vice-captain at that time. Like Agnes, Benubiru is also seeking the captain; the man known as the Flame Serpent was responsible for melting half of Benubiru’s face off.
When did Agnes become the star of this show? The best part of this episode had to be when Agnes told her troops to go get dressed, and by the time they finished doing their hair and getting ready (does this armor make my butt look big?), Benubiru had already rounded up the entire school and tied everybody up. I liked Benubiru, as he followed orders and did not fall into too many classic villain traps. Benubiru ignored Julio’s taunts, did not give up any of his hostages, and defended himself expertly against Agnes’ forces. He even reminds me of T-101. I like to think that Osman did not retaliate because of all the hostages, but he has been impotent this season.
Meanwhile, it’s looking more and more like Colbert is the Flame Serpent who captained the forces at Danguteal. Normally I would suspect a red herring, but last season was so heavy-handed that I’m pretty sure of this prediction. No wonder he was so interested in the “dragon blood” last season! I hope his robe gets burned off to reveal rippling muscles underneath or something, lol. The world needs more balding heroes, and I look forward to Colbert not punking out like he usually does.

“I hope his robe gets burned off to reveal rippling muscles underneath or something, lol.”
Oh man, that would be the reverse shark jump of the year, if he just suddenly tore off his shirt and was all DBZ ripped underneath.
“When did Agnes become the star of this show?”
I’ve been wondering that myself. It seems like the entire second season has been focused on her…and she was just introduced in the second season. What ever happened to Saito and Louise!?
Who are Saito and Louise? Are they in the Gunpowder Squadron?
