With the help of Raphaela, Rubel easily tracks down Jean and Clare, and tells Clare to go to Alphonse to seek Lucky. Because the Organization can easily track them, Jean and Clare have no choice but to join the other 22 Claymore girls gathered in the city of Pieta. There, Jean is introduced to the rest of the almost-Awakened gang. Miria is in charge of the difficult mission, and her other captains are Jean, number 13 Veronica, muscular dual-wielding number 11 Undine, and number 8 Windcutter Flora.

The problem with the mission is that the Abyssal Isley is just using the gathered AO as pawns. Three AO attack that night, hoping to seed confusion, but Miria’s excellent leadership skills keep everyone calm. While Miria’s team tackles Xenomorph and Jean’s team takes on Blindfold, Flora and Clare move to take down iCanC4ever before he transforms. Unfortunately, he is like Galatea, and his ability to align his Yoki allows him to control the bodies of the Claymore. However, before he can turn the battle into an all out yuri buffet, Clare uses her Flash Sword to disrupt his concentration.

This was a nice prelude which showcased Miria’s amazing tactical skills. It’s funny that Miria spent so long investigating, whereas dumb Clare found out about Isley because Riful spoiled her. However, Miria’s splitting of the teams allows the less experienced Claymores help and learn, and her fast thinking kept everyone calm during the night ambush. Too bad that half of the entire Claymore force is being sacrificed to buy the Organization more planning time.

Meanwhile, it was funny having everyone remark about Clare’s arm like she had gotten implants. Still, I liked the explanation of learning to control the Awakened arm after watching Jean hold her entire Awakened body in check with a strong mind. I’m looking forward to meeting all the scrub Claymores, and seeing the abilities of the more powerful ones. Hopefully the Battoujutsu skills of Flora, and the big arms of Undine translate well to the animated world.

I’m impressed that Jean didn’t whine about wanting to have Clare on her team.

I bet most people would have thought that Miria would have kept the Fab 4 together but she shares them out with everyone. Awww… So now, every team has a Partially Awakened Claymore with them – lucky with the numbers since she didn’t know about Jean being a Partially Awakened until that night.

!!MIRIA 4 PREZ!!

The anime doesn’t make this completely clear, but the team splitting is done in a very simple way – the strongest non-leader goes to the weakest leader; the second strongest to the second weakest and so on.

The author obviously chose the numbers so the 4 would be in different teams, but Miria herself didn’t have any deep plan here.

The team splitting was very similar to how many fantasy sports drafts work. Clare is obviously the sleeper of the draft.

Well, it sure made those of us who haven’t read the manga believe that Miria has great organizational skills, doesn’t it?
Jean has the least leadership skills since people are her team often die. Even her opponent points out that she’s no good as a leader. But in contrast, Miria knows how to organize quickly so that a total disaster does not happen, or the author planned the strategies to make Miria the character looking smart.
I’m sure so many doujin artists have already made the ladies the victims of many yuri buffets over and over again.
