Jean’s body has awakened and is releasing a musky green gas, but her mind is still barely human. She’s elated that she can die human with Clare arriving to finish her off, but Clare has other ideas. By glomping Jean’s face, Clare is able to use Galatea’s trick to help pull Jean back from the edge. The pair return to the battle just in time to save Galatea.
Galatea and Clare attempt to pin Duff’s hands so that Jean can hit Duff in the neck with her explosively powerful 21-turn Giga Drill Breaker. Unfortunately, Duff is too powerful for this plan, so Clare instead uses her natural Yoki-reading and her Flash sword to deflect Duff’s arm attacks away while Galatea seals Duff’s mouth attacks. This allows Jean to nearly sever Duff’s head, but at this moment Riful steps in to save Duff. Riful allows Clare to land a headshot, and reveals that the Abyssal in the Northern Lands of Alphonse is none other than the Silver King, Isley. Meanwhile, up north, a troop of scrub Claymore is being decimated by a group of AO.
This was a good resolution to the first Riful encounter, although many of her intentions are only subtly hinted at. For instance, there was no mention of Riful being aware that she was being watched, hence her desire to mask her power by remaining in loli form (a classic trick). Moreover, Riful’s gift of information simply ensures that Isley will have another attack to deal with, from a force strong enough to land a blow on Riful. Duff is lucky that his woman is so crafty.
I found it funny that Jean battled the entire time without pants or underwear. Trumping that, however, was the split second shot of Clare getting hit so hard that her steel shoe comes off. Finally, now that Clare has found out just how powerful the Abyssals are, it is obvious she wants to get somewhere to train. Her Flash Sword is still rather inefficient, although Clare has finally managed to combine her defensive and offensive abilities together. It’s nice that Clare doesn’t always get a bigger and badder fireball, but rather learns to utilize the skills she has in new meaningful ways.

In one scene it almost looked like she was using Ophelia’s ripple sword style combined with flash sword. Combo!
Clare is Claymore’s version of Copy Ninja Kakashi.
Damn claymore 17 was great, hell claymore is probably one of the best anime out there.
another great episode
I like how the anime is told in parts, explored fully and then linked with another scene.
I can’t really say much about Claymore. It’s basically “Sit back, fasten your seatbelt and enjoy your ride!”. The one thing that annoys me a bit though is how stupid and illogic Duff behaves. I mean this is not meant to be a comedy, is it? I think his goofiness is somewhat misplaced. Oh well, Claire vs. Goofy could actually be quite entertaining.
