New transfer student Julio Chesaré of Romalia shows up to the Academy just as Agnes and her group arrive to train the remaining the female students (the boys have been recruited into the army). With his blue/red eyes and his sweet white dragon ride, Julio is an instant hit with the ladies, and he challenges Saito to a duel for a kiss with Louise. Saito enlists Agnes’ help in picking up swordsman training, as the duel will be with wooden swords. Furthermore, Saito realizes that if he were caught without a weapon he would be screwed, and so he wishes to shore up this weakness in his game.
Agnes teaches him well, but Julio is much too skilled. However, at the critical moment, Julio loses on purpose. It seems the only reason for the match was to test Saito’s skills, since they will be working together with Agnes and Louise in Zero. Julio is obviously not a transfer student, but instead sent by the Pope of Romalia to help Henrietta. Meanwhile, in Albion, Furomoru (though they know her as Sophie) seizes power and riles up the meathead knights.
Why is it that all the secretaries in this universe end up being busty ladies who wear cloaks and secretly practice powerful magic? I wonder if Agnes’ past of hatred of fire mages will lead her to covet Saito, or if she will end up matched with Julio. Agnes has the right idea training the students to have a backup plan for when their main form of attack gets taken away. Unfortunately, it seems like all the girls do is watch Julio instead of practice. Meanwhile, Julio seems to be the perfect foil for Saito to up his mojo powers, and hopefully they can work together to form Merryland.
It was pretty great that Saito’s taunt did not work on Julio, and instead Saito fell prey to his fear of BL. I look forward to more uncomfortable teamwork from the newly expanded Zero. I also look forward to finding out why Julio has different colored eyes that match his dragon’s headpiece.
