Chitose organizes a Christmas party, but is unable to bring herself to confess to Takashi. Instead, the big announcement comes from Kayo, who will be going abroad to study photography. After seeing Mugi do so well on stage, Kayo feels that Mugi can go it alone. Mugi of course takes the announcement very badly.

At the New Year’s shrine activities, Mugi reveals that she has not wished Kayo well yet. Mugi is tremendously emo, and doesn’t want Kayo to leave. Moreover, Mugi is feeling guilty since she hasn’t gone anywhere, while Kayo is slowly taking steps towards a dream. Nono tries to help Mugi accept that nothing lasts forever, but instead Mugi goes totally nuts, and starts crying out that she doesn’t want anyone to leave.

Wow, that was some powerful Mugi drama this episode. You could tell there would be some shockers when the writing team brought up Kai’s ero-manga and the Drama Club brought in the Centucky Fried Chicken. I really thought that Nono’s parallel about how Kayo is like the fairies who disappeared after the main character found happiness would cheer Mugi up, but instead Mugi sank deeper into the quicksand of despair.

It’s pretty clear that Mugi is that one friend who can’t handle her alcohol, and instead of becoming cheery or even belligerent when drunk she becomes totally emo and depressed. Nono seems to be trying her best with some firm love, and I giggled about how when Mugi said Nono doesn’t understand the deep Mugi-Kayo bond, Nono insisted she does. Oh does she ever.

There should be a duty for anime girls to wear kneepads considering their gravitational error rate is roughly equivalent to that of an unexperienced inline skater.

I can’t believe they included an entire flashback scene covering the crappy play. That was only one episode ago!

Mugi-emo is almost suffocating. Her inferiority complex is becoming Shinji-like, and has crossed the line between cute and irritating.
