Negima Live Action

  1. Live Action Roster
  2. Manga Roster

Interesting, I wonder if there will be as much fanservice as the manga. It’s also amazing to see who got picked to play certain characters. What do you think of your favorites?

Hat tip to Omni for the news, and congrats on 2 years!

Edit: ANS reports:

13 year old actress Kashiwa Yukina will play the roll of nine and three quarters-year-old child prodigy, mage and teacher Negi Springfield in the forthcoming TV Tokyo Live Action drama Maho Sensei Negima! Parallel. The news came out during a production symposium held in Tokyo September 1st.

Negima Live Action neg la

Interesting choice, though you’d think she’d be better cast as one of the twins. The chances that this LAA is going to be corny just went up another 10%.

Not to sound racist or anything (I’m asian too, after all), but they all look the same! Isn’t the point of having all the characters that they’re all unique and immediately identifiable?

Also, they all seem kinda… old.

Having never found any of the Negima characters particularly easy to identify in a who’s who lineup, I don’t really see a difference.

But that may be because Ken Akamatsu just likes drawing Shinobu over and over and over. Seriously, like 90% of Negima’s characters look like her with wigs on.

There’s also an interesting range of ages… One of the actresses is 23… another, who plays Nodoka, is 13… I just wonder if they really well make the live action as fanservice-oriented as the manga/anime… :(

well nodoka is a loli type

I’m not Asian and I couldn’t get their ages right to save my life – except the 12 year olds maybe. I think there’s quite a bit of variation for Japanese. If you want the same level of difference, you obviously mustn’t cast only Japanese or Asians. Most anime characters don’t look particularly Asian to my eyes at all. Who wouldn’t be able to identify Ku fei, Asuna, Setsuna or Nodoka? No, I cannot really remember the names of the side-characters either but the Negi cast has more variation than most other anime/manga and maybe even real-life with respect to hair colors and styles anyway.

Did someone say 12 year olds?

Reply

Chris July 5, 2007 at 9:27 am

It’s not illegal to say them, is it?

Reply

Darkshaunz July 5, 2007 at 10:11 am

Absolutely not.

I was just attracted by that. >:3

I was disappointed in how scraggly their twintails looked. I also was not able to identify that many of the live cast characters without looking at the roster.

I’m sure they didn’t cast non-Asians because of the language barrier. I don’t foresee this being a show with especially high production values. I read somewhere (I think in the comments on Omni’s page) someone was predicting that Kamo would be played by a stuffed animal orz.

But that may be because Ken Akamatsu just likes drawing Shinobu over and over and over. Seriously, like 90% of Negima’s characters look like her with wigs on.

lol…

I agree with Hung in that some of the actresses look like older women cosplaying as schoolgirls. Just looks blatantly wrong.

Reply

Chris July 5, 2007 at 11:48 am

I’d agree that the hair styles in the live-action are a let down in comparision to the anime or manga.
It’s funny how nobody noticed that there’s no Negima in the live-action version.

Reply

Kabitzin July 5, 2007 at 11:58 am

Well if a stuffed animal plays Kamo, maybe they can just have a 1-1 scale poster of Negima as the titular character.

It could be like episode 12 Akira in Lucky Star.

This guy will play Negi:

I forgot: Kinsoku jikou desu!

as said earlier it’s very tough to find the characters. i think all the action and magic thing won’t be included in the live action so this is show will be more about the days of students in 3A.

changes proposed so we can recognize better the characters:
add antennas to chachamaru
get a tan for fei ku and mana
dye eva’s hair
change actress for fumika
change hairstyle for most people
glasses for chisame
-

btw is anyone going to sub this thing?

Sayo – What I’m wondering is why she’s wearing the current school uniform. I hope they’re not planning to make her human.

Yuna – That’s not what I imagined her to look like at all. Her ponytail doesn’t even look good. :\

Kasumi – I like her, they do look alike ^^

Yue – Maybe it’s just because she’s smiling that she doesn’t look much like Yue…

Ako – She looks weird…

Akira – Looks okay

Misa – She looks too old to play Misa, I’d put her as Kaede or something

Asuna – She looks alright, I’m only hoping she’s tsundere enough xP

Misora – Her hair needs to be shorter

Chachamaru – I hope they’re not making her human too :\ Seems like all the abnormal characters are human so far, I hope it’s just to show the actresses without the makeup and effects.

Kugimiya – Looks alright

Ku – Not how I imagined her either o.o Hope she’s going to have short blonde hair, possibly get a tan

Konoka – Looks decent

Haruna – She needs the antennaeee…it’s not that hard to do with real hair xP

Setsuna – She looks great ^w^ She has a beautiful smile, though I hope she’s as kickass as Setsuna is.

Makie – Hmr…I guess she looks alright, though I’d suggest ribbons in her hair

Sakurado – Great hairstyle, I knew who she was right from the start ^^

Mana – She seriously needs a tan. A deep tan. And black hair. She doesn’t look like Mana at all…

Chao – Looks alright, better fitting with her character than Ku’s actress

Kaede – Why is she one of the shortest/youngest there? She should be the tallest, oldest one in there. Please switch with Misa’s actress, thanks. xP

Chizuru – Her bangs look too…fluffy. It’s weird.

Fuuka – Great, though it’s a shame they didn’t pick twins for the twins. They don’t even look alike. Twins aren’t that hard to find in Japan, are they?

Fumika – If they would change for a kid that looks more like Fuuka, that would be awesome.

Satomi – I hope her hair’s going to grow before the live action’s out…or else, get her a wig, because she doesn’t look like Satomi.

Chisame – Somehow, the manga roster misspelt her name. Weird. Get her some glasses! And I’m hoping to see Chiu-Chiu in the Live Action. Do not leave Chiu-Chiu out!

Evangeline – She doesn’t look young enough, though it’s better for it to be in the middle, so she can play older Evangeline…unless they get two actresses. Though she looks good for the part, just dye her hair blonde. xP

Nodoka – Grow out her bangs and she’s good to go. ^w^

Natsumi – The hair looks really weird…weirdest hairstyle in there.

Ayaka – Blonde hair, please. xP

Satsuki – Looks alright

Zazie – She seriously needs a tan too. And shorter hair. Possibly a wig. And the makeup.

it’s gonna be stupid! chacha isn’t even a robot, zazie has no paint on her face, eva isn’t supposed to be japanese, mana is supposed to be dark skinned, sayo does not look like a ghost, chisame isn’t wearing glasses, and overall it’s just all wrong >.<

First of all, I see that all the actresses are Japanese – but Evangeline is sopposed to be caucasion and Fei and Lingshen are sopposed to be Chinese.

Secondly most of the characters are between 14 – 16 years old. Why do they have people in their 20′s playing some of the parts?

I mean they have Kaede being played by a 13 year old. The character of Kaede is one of the older students. Evangeline who is 10 is being played by a 14 year old. The actresses playing Fuuka and Fumika are going to tower over the actress playing Kaede.

If they get an adult to play Negi than you know they are not even trying.

What were they THINKING? :(

SWalker August 1, 2007 at 12:04 am

Then again, if they could get Daniel Radcliffe…nah.

Spike August 3, 2007 at 2:05 pm

The girl that plays Kaede is adorable, but she doesn’t look like her at all. Kaede was the tall, sultry girl of the group. The girl playing her is one of the youngest on the roster…

aimaimaim August 14, 2007 at 9:23 am

no i don’t think this will work..

will this lady kick ass like Eva did on the manga series?

and yeah the lady playing kaede sure is “nice” *munch munch* XD

Reply

Kabitzin September 2, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Sorry, no Daniel Radcliffe. They got a 13-year old girl instead.

Reply

Chris September 8, 2007 at 4:19 pm

SO why was it so hard for them to find an actuall MALE actor?

Last I checked, Negi was from Wales, not Japan.

Reply

Chris October 5, 2007 at 7:51 am

Probably not hard to find but I think they simply prefer 13-year old girls over any Daniel Radcliffes in Japan.

Anyway, now that the first episode is out, has anyone watched it?

Reply

Kabitzin October 5, 2007 at 8:02 am

Omni did and he said it sucked.

Words fail me. This is, as anticipated, one of the worst travesties I have ever watched

Hahaha… Perhaps I will pass on this one

I think he and especially his commenters like to bash and hype stuff, either a show is teh WORST EVAR or BEST EVAR. Most don’t seem to know much in between over there.

Few of the girls had any screen time so far. The acting wasn’t great but that was to be expected. It’s probably low budget, for TV, not cinema and Japanese seem great as voice actors but tend to be too stiff as live-action actors. Maybe it’s more a question of casting though. If people’s character matches those of the role, they can just play themselves and be convincing without being a great actor. That’s how it works for Hollywood. However, the 13-year old as Negi doesn’t look like a miscast to me. Visually it’s a bit dark but otherwise not bad.

The complaint about the ED is just retarded because it’s pretty much inline with the Negima OSTs and if it doesn’t sound completely professional but has a bit of school girl karaoke flavour, I’m certain that’s intented because it fits the show.

Kamo is not 3D-animated, it’s flat 2D as in anime. Certainly a better idea than using a puppet if you need this character at all. I’m no fan of this weasel.

Nathan October 7, 2007 at 11:14 pm

Hm, so there’s an updated live-action roster: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/negima-drama/character.html

some of it’s gotten better, and suggested improvements made. But I still think it looks like there is need of more hair-dying, and tanning.

so, kaede, definitely looks too young..and c’mon, how could they not get actual twins for the role of the twins? and what’s with ku!? In this picture, sorry to the actress, but she looks like a guy…

Reply

Kabitzin October 7, 2007 at 11:54 pm

Thanks for the link Nathan. This roster made me cry from laughing so hard!

Some of the characters are actually not too bad, like Evangeline. However, the ones that are kinda half-assed, are really hilarious.

Sadly, I agree with you abut Ku Fei. She is one of my favs, too!

I can’t even find any episodes period after episode 3, much less english subbed episodes!!! Anybody have any suggestions?

Why, oh, WHY does Negi have to be Japanese?! I just can’t tell anybody apart. Chachamaru’s hair looks flourescent, and it is waaaay too light!!! And what is the problem with finding dye for Eva’s hair?! gosh, what does dye cost, 5 dollars? I think I will go throw up now.

LOL @ Mike: “Oh god somebody stop them.”
too late now XD they’ve already finished O.o

& i agree w/Nathan: “In this picture, sorry to the actress, but she looks like a guy…”
Ku’s actress in her getup reminds me of one of my elementary classmates who was a total tomboy XP

anyways guys: the live action is actually not bad (well it’s hard to make manga characters come to life -.-)
i find the fights between Asuna & Ayaka hilarious in its overly exaggerated way XD
&& the KonoSetsu moments r nice too ^^”
(Setsuna seems bolder in my opinion…)

Is it really THAT crap??? I mean, I haven’t seen it yet, and yes most of them don’t even look like the originals, and aren’t posing like them either, but it the actual program really not that good. And also, how bout you try working in that sort of business, I don’t, though, but I’ve seen how making movies and TV programmes work before and its hard, because you can’t just look for anyone who looks like the characters, because for one they have to an actor/actress and also act good as well. Although, it is stupid of them not to think of wigs, but with hair dye, think, guys, I’m not meaning to be sexist, but girls care a lot about their hair, and if they think the colours don’t match them or something of the sort, they won’t want it done, unless the got paid hansomely or something. Overall, though, choosing who to be in a programme can be hard somethimes, although yes it can be easy, but rarely, though, and you should all just stop moaning and groaning and either watch it and if you don’t like then do something even simpler than buying wigs: DON’T WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
