Dynasty Warriors: Gundam (X360/PS3)

The Gundam franchise has officially reached new lows! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry that Gundam, which has yet to find a consistently good game formula, has been crossed with the Dynasty Warriors franchise, which has perhaps the most tired formula EVER. Who knows, maybe it will be decently entertaining. The Trailer from Gamespot shows all the usual Dynasty Warrior gameplay quirks, including mindless hordes of mooks standing around doing absolutely NOTHING, and tons of repetitive button mashing to take them all down. LOL, the space levels appear to be on a 2-D plane, like everyone’s standing on a glass floor in outer space. Lame!

Can Gundam eat meat buns?

BTW, I would think this is the most realistic Gundam game to date. I always pictured Kira Yamato fighting scrub Gouf units the same way Konata did image training in Lucky Star episode 8. He probably has a penny and a flexible metal ruler in the cockpit for some hardcore button mashing.

And then Peng will make a parody comic out of it, and I will laugh and laugh and laugh as Amuro and Char both race for a meat bun to the words “OH! BAOZI!!”

Actually have this game for the PS3. It’s pretty good and pretty much in the style of Dyntasy Warriors. Interestingly enough, no one from GS/GSD is in it.

It is “3-D” but as you mentioned Ender, the space levels outside have “floors”. Kind of gay but meh, not much one can do. Otherwise, pretty good. Like no load times and even after getting gangbanged, game still played smooth. I think only like 3x did it ever “slow down” in the months I’ve had the game.

Overall definitely one of the better games out for the PS3 IMHO.

I’ve used the spastic movement technique which is quite easy if your fingers are exhausted anyway. I guess the nickname “ruler” does not really refer to someone who rules.

The voices and music sound GREAT on my new Gundam speakers.

Looks cool but I’m afraid it’s a bit too small for my head. Is it meant for dwarfs like this guy?

This on the other head err hand, looks a bit too large:

I personally think this is the biggest advance in Gundam games. Dynasty Warriors, while having A.I. problems, is known for big confrontations that take anywhere from 30 min. to an hour or more which is what is seen in many battles in the Gundam multiverse. Sure they could have done a better job with the space battles (maybe making it more like the Star Wars Battlefront 2 space battle sequences and modifying it) but at least its a step forward from boring and or short battles from previous games.

I haven’t played the game myself but I do hope that its less like Dynasty Warriors when you strike the enemy and they falldown. That would be really unrealistic to the series.

I have Gundam Musou, the Japanese version of Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, on the PS3 already.

It kicks all sorts of ass… if you like Dynasty Warriors games. Which I do.

Why do I love them? The shear mindlessness of them, that’s why. Where else can I go to kill 1000s of enemies in a level? Nowhere. And it’s done with style and flair.

Yeah, it’s the same game engine essentially so it’s “more of the same,” but you know what? It’s still damned fun.

So you don’t like DW? Oh well. It could be worse. They could give us another Crossfire.
