Kaze no Stigma 05

Everyone is celebrating the victory over Gehou when Kazuma arrives. Kazuma’s late, and he tells a cheerful Misao that he didn’t avenge her brother Takeya; in fact, Kazuma’s partially to blame since he knocked Takeya out. Kazuma then tells Misao that her brother was weak, and so she tries to stab him with her hidden tantō. Unfortunately, she cannot even penetrate his passive wind shield, and Kazuma leaves unscathed.

Later on, Ayano finds Kazuma coming out of the love hotel scene. Busty Kirika is on his arm, and Ayano is clearly intimidated. Ayano decides to stalk Kazuma to see if he is sleeping with Kirika, and with Ren’s help, she tracks the Contractor down to a coffee shop. Kazuma meets up with a sexier version of Misao, and they travel to the love hotel Campanella. It’s a trap, but nothing Misao does to Kazuma even fazes him. Left behind, Misao meets up with a mysterious boy who offers her power. Misao thinks the boy is an angel, but as we see some poor girl get sucked into a funky jelly, it’s pretty clear the boy is actually evil.

This was a pretty interesting set-up episode, that gave a lot of nuances to Kazuma’s character. On the one hand, he has no problems criticizing the dead and taunting Misao as weak, but at the same time it seems he cares about her well-being. I don’t know if he’s trying to show her that revenge is pointless so that she can get on with her life. I also want to know what he was doing with investigator Kirika in the love hotel district. And why did he know that there was a better hotel up the street from Campanella?

As for Ayano, she wants Kazuma so bad, it’s ridiculous. Equally ridiculous was Misao’s plan. Did she really think that Kazuma fell into her sexy trap? Why did she believe that a spellcaster who defeated Gehou would be hurt by small arms fire and a few hand grenades? Now it looks like Misao’s turned to the dark side, and sided with a pectin-jelly yoma or something to get revenge on Kazuma.

What’s even more ridiculous about Misao’s “plan” was that she should’ve known her “cover” has already been blown the moment he lounged an attack at Kazuma way back in the celebration =___=”’ (and the reason why Kazuma agreed to go out with her is because of his sympathy and wanting to somewhat take the blame for her brother’s death)

and about Ayano’s actions… it was hilarious, yet silly, and it made Ayano look worse. I don’t think it was such a brilliant move for Gonzo to add this scene when they stripped away the supposedly more fun ‘entertainment’ in the novel covered in this episode (and it doesn’t give Ayano justice). Ayano isn’t this much of a jealous freak… =___=”’

I guess Misao has the utmost confidence in her own mojo. She mentions this again in the next episode, oddly enough…
