When we last saw our heroes, they had just landed on the surface of the planet, and immediately ran into the first ganmen’s squadmates. Simon can’t work up the nerve to fight back, and the Lagann stops responding, so they flee until Yoko’s comrades bail them out with some overpowering small-arms fire. Simon and Kamina learn a bit about the overworld from the flaming gay mechanic, Leeron, and also discover that the Lagann is powered by Simon’s fighting spirit. They crash at Ritona village until the morning, when the beastmen come back with a huge red ganmen. Simon gets fired up when he realizes the beastmen crash landings are what caused the tremors that killed his parents, and he aids Kamina in hijacking the giant ganmen (which Kamina dubs “Gurren”). Through some unorthodox methods, Kamina and Simon are able to triumph over the enemy. However, Kamina’s spirits are dampened when he learns of his father’s fate.

Once again, Gurren Lagann delivers as promised, and the action is fast and furious from the get-go. Tons of hilarious moments are peppered throughout, and I’m finding myself agreeing with Skane that the Lagann’s facial expression steal the show. The poor Lagann really got the short end of the stick this time, as all the ganmen pilots simultaneously realized that he is roughly the size of a baseball 
The beastmen are not nearly as scary when they are separated from their ganmen, and are pretty funny-looking in general. I’m still wondering where their ganmen are launched from, though I suppose we’ll find out later. Funny thought: when Simon looked at Yoko’s breasts his drill started glowing. Could Gainax be more blatant?

Seriously, Gainax can and have been so much worse. It’s why we love them so~
They certainly utilize a lot of different angles to showcase Yoko’s… assets. I’ve always thought Gainax was pretty decent when they had enough budget money.

The mecha is better in those shows.^^
