Spring 2007

by Kabitzin on March 28, 2007 in Previews

I usually do a list of the top shows I’m watching at the end of every month, but this month I couldn’t bring myself to. Basically, I watched Code Geass (which was excellent) and the ending of Soukou no Strain (which was ok). Other than that, I’ve really felt like the last few months of anime have been pretty terrible. It’s an odd feeling wanting to blog but not having anything to really talk about.

I’m hopeful that the spring season will bring fresh winds of change. Perhaps those winds will blow away my shining tears. Please refer to Omni’s outstanding list for a bevy of information about the full lineup. There look to be a number of extremely boring and political series that I’m sure Ender will love. Here’s 9 shows I’m looking forward to:

Can I Get Your Number?

  1. El Cazador de la Bruja: No brainer, even though I’m sure it will have its confusing, slow, head-pounding moments. In spite of our abusive relationship, I still heart Bee Train. The character designs look a bit better than usual, IMHO.
  2. Darker than BLACK: While the description of the plot doesn’t really blow me out of the water, this show comes in with plenty of impressive credentials. I like the character designs, with everyone looking Bored-er than BORED.
  3. Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS: Legal Fate is looking hot, and I can’t wait for some more awesome combat against evil enemies that are really just misunderstood. But where the hell is Arf?! Did she get kicked off the show (I see Zafira is still there, though)?!
  4. Wellber no Monogatari: This is looking pretty snappy, and I enjoyed the trailer. Every time “ZOOM FLICKER” popped up on the screen, however, I did a double-take.
  5. Seirei no Moribito: Another series with excellent credentials, they mix it up and have a female bodyguard and a young boy needing protection. Apparently her job is to escort him to a safe place where he can lay the egg =\.
  6. Seto no Hanayome: Sha-la-la-la-la-la / Music play / Do what the music say / You wanna kiss the girl!
  7. Bokurano: Anime version of Ender’s Game?
  8. Claymore: Looks interesting, but I never thought that much of the manga. Depending on how high the production values are, however, I could totally see myself watching this series on a superficial level.
  9. Kaze no Stigma: Mentioned because of the strange Shakugan no Shana similarities, and because her shirt could explode at any moment.

X-Rated

  1. Shining Tears X Wind: In my personal experience, Wind always wins, but thankfully there are rewetting drops.
  2. RomeoXJuliet: Ampersands are so last year. Don’t let the haters spoil the ending of this series for you.

Thanks for the link :) I’ve been pretty disappointed with this past season too (aside from GEASS and Kanon and such), so hopefully the Spring shows will impress.

>> Bokurano: Anime version of Ender’s Game?

lol, that was percisely my thought when I saw the summary too! ^^
I will definitely watch that to see if it’s worthy of such a comparison!

Poor Arf! I’m not missing Yuuno though – Fate x Nanoha FTW!!

I wonder how viewers in Japan have rated the last two seasons. I know I’ve personally had enough moe for a while, and am looking for a bit more substance.

Zyl, I will not miss Yuuno either. I never felt he added that much, except for the one eyecatch where Nanoha dreamt he was a yam.

And the plus symbol was already taken too. I actually liked that version. Also I’m pretty sure that there’s supposed to be some kind of statute of limitations on spoilers and that it’s less than 400 years…

I plan on watching it just to see how it turns out. There’s a probably a small chance that it will be great and a much larger chance that it will be an OMGWTFBBQ!?!? trainwreck. I’ll be happy with either of those outcomes. What will really suck is if gonzo screws over the actual ending.

Thanks a lot for posting that link without a spoiler tag. You just ruined the Passion of Christ for me!!!!

I always like stories retold in anime style. Like Soukou no Strain taking the story of a riches to rags British girl and adding mecha and aliens! Just think of how many of Shakespeare’s hits could be, erm, sampled.

holy shit there’s a new season already? Wow…school pretty much owned my anime viewing this season–oh wait! I forgot winter season sucked. Nevermind. I’ll keep an eye on your picks since they’re usually pretty decent.

Claymore looks rather promising. They backgrounds are beautiful, the character design are a bit different, the tits are not oversized and Clare is a kind killer. After the first episode, it’s not clear though which path it will take. Hopefully, it does not turn into a weak-monster-of-teh-week routine.

By the way, I already know the final scene:

About Claymore… they will need some time to cover the first two arcs which explains in detail on how the world of Claymore works. Once the third arc starts, there will be no more “monster of the week” structure. Given the current pacing, we will probably hit the third arc by Ep04 or Ep05.

Cheers.
