Utawarerumono 25

After hearing that Kamyu posses some kind of ancestral Onkamiyamukai essence, Hakuoro comes to terms with being the yang to Dii’s yin. Hakuoro decides to go all in, and after watching Oboro almost spar evenly with Benawi (sorta), Hakuoro decides that Oboro has enough mojo and fighting skills to be his successor. Now that Kuuya’s reverted to a Hakuoro-loving baby (blocking out painful memories), there’s nothing left to do but go get Kamyu back and take down Dii.

Although Hakuoro wants to go alone, everyone tags along. Urutorii utters some funky language to open the doors and Mutsumi summons some stinky red blobs to attack. Fortunately they use mind games to take Mutsumi out, and we then get a flashback of Iceman and Mikoto (and a whole bunch of other test subjects not named Mutsumi/Kamyu) getting freed by Dr. Mizushima. Dii proclaims that he and Hakuoro are gods who manipulate humans to promote evolution. Dii figures without Mutsumi’s help he can’t win, and so offers to go take a 30 minute nap while Hakuoro is in charge of the world. However, Hakuoro can’t stand Dii’s voice, so now it’s time for some DBZ air battling!

When Dii and Hakuoro were giving each other hot and heavy stares, I was totally reminded of that Kamui duality in X. Mmm mmm mm, bring those fanfics on! Anyway, this episode was a tad confusing, but it seems that Dii and Hakuoro are the gods that regular people have been worshipping. However, while Dii wants to level people up by grinding, Hakuoro feels that grinding is evil, and that questing is the way to go. Ahhh, an argument as old as time.

I can’t believe that Mutsumi attacked everyone with rotten grape jelly donut filling. And what was with Eruru’s hair ring triggering the flashback? The text on Kamyu/Mutsumi’s very cramped enclosure said 63, so perhaps more busty, black-winged young girls will show up in the last episode. And I can’t help but wonder if the rest of the happy samples got away from the stormtroopers.

Do try Utawarerumono Radio broadcasts. It is hilarious! It also created new meme: Dark Eruru’s Unlimted Fork Work.

Isn’t it a bit counter-intuitive that the penultimate battle features the WEAKEST scrub units?
