It’s surprising to me that something like this makes the news, but it seems that police have busted several youths for mugging otaku.
Police said there have been 25 reported incidents of “otaku hunting” since the start of the year, with victims losing a combined 350,000 yen between them.
“Otaku are weak and they’ve got money, so we went after them,” one of the arrested youths told the police.
When you think about it, it makes sense, except for the whole having money part. I guess you have to catch them on the way into Akihabara, otherwise the store owners will finish robbing the otaku first.

HAHAHAHA, omg that is so wrong!
I’d kill them if they tried to rob me.
Pure and simple.
I would like to hear the position from The Otaku Society on the sad state of their members, knowing that Japan is home to 100 styles of martial arts. AT LEAST DEFEND YOURSELF!
“Otaku are weak and they’ve got money, so we went after them”
Well, if they put it THAT way, can you blame them for the mugging?
LOL, catching salmon…
While this is pretty damn low for the mean time otaku patrons of Japan can travel in groups or gaggles. Still I share the sentiment of kill all such thieves who foolishly come between an otaku and his merchandise. Nevertheless such things may not fly in court. Since the US is about to throw away a bunch of Fritz helmets rated Threat Level II they can be used a “bicycle helmets.” Being TL II they can stop shrapnel and most pistol rounds they can certainly stop a squishy bag of water trying to steal. I’d say knock out a few teeth and break something below the knee cap (to avoid attempted murder) and don’t be shy about it. Remember pavement is harder than bone and a mugging is just very good time to put those Krav scenarios to use.
I love the title of this entry.
