It’s been a month since the war ended, and everyone is doing their best to rebuild. Hakuoro feels rather emotional about the whole thing, but Eruru is kind and unwavering in her support. The one thing that really bothers Hakuoro, however, is what to do with all the Shikeripetim refugees. While Hakuoro feels that they should just abandon the burned ruins, it is their homeland, and they want to rebuild it. Hakuoro continues to be haunted by the fire-ghost of Yue, but Eruru shows him that weeds can grow anywhere, even in a land tainted with evil. Then she mentions something about “weed power”.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country slowly gets back to normal. Benawi and Oboro spar a bit, and while Oboro loses (of course), Benawi upgrades his opinion of Oboro’s skills *snicker* from an F- to a F+. While everyone parties and gets smashed in the early afternoon, Hakuoro notices that something is wrong with Kamyu. She’s drinking tons of water, but cannot quench her thirst; something is up, but Urutorii whisks Kamyu away and assures Hakuoro that everything is fine. A few nights later, Hakuoro follows Kamyu to the river, where she flies in a trance, surrounded by alien bright lights under the full moon. There, Hakuoro is joined by another Kamyu fan, a grizzled Evinkuruga warrior named Genjimaru. Genjimaru has been stalking Hakuoro and drawing crop circles in the fields for his master, the emperor of Kunnekamun, Amururineuruka Kuuya (which I looked up and discovered was Japanese for “cut and paste”).

While not a whole lot happened this episode, I felt the episode did a great job of giving enough humor and tension to seque smoothly into the next arc, while still reminding us that all is not happy in Hakuoro’s world. He continues to do the best he can, but if not for the rock-steady influence of Eruru, he’d probably go all emo on us. Eruru’s line about “What we need more than anything is tomorrow,” was really wonderful, and it’s clear that Tusukuru raised her well. The other members of Hakuoro’s harem seem to be doing just fine, with Aruru and Mukuru continuing with their storehouse raiding ways (joined by new ally, Karura, who barely manages to escape while clutching her enormous jugs). The duel was interesting, but I never really felt like Benawi would lose. On the other hand, watching Kurou get all worried was pretty amusing. I guess breathing exercises can only take you so far.

Now, what’s the deal with this alien Kamyu? Next thing we know, she’s going to be beaming up Woptars and probing poor villagers. Also of note was how much more annoying Touka is when she’s not owning scrub soldiers. I seriously think she’s trying to give Oboro a run for his money.

Aww… but I found Touka cutesy and all too adorable, especially her facial expressions when Aruruu and Karura got caught in the warehouse.

She’s so protective though! Maybe Touka is all part of Eruru’s master plan to keep that hussy Karura away from Hakuoro.

Touka gets even wierder in episode 17.

Genjimaru has such an old fashioned moustache.

You can’t use a letter grade to describe their skill level. If civilians and fresh recruits are level 0, army personnel would be about level 1 to 3 with Hakuoro’s army about level 4 from all that experience they had to go through. Oboro probably started at level 10, and have arrived at level 14 at this point, while Benauwi is like level 20 . Karura’s level is probably similar to Benauwi and Touka perhaps level 25 , but Karura’s strength is great enough to overcome the level deficits. Hakuoro would be little bit below Oboro, but he makes up for it with his intelligence. Benauwi would still be your choice for the general of the army due to his intelligence and charisma, though.

You can’t win against a full-fledged (bust, feline ears & tail) Karura. Even a silent protagonist like Hakuoro is doomed to fall for this uber-gal….

I think Hakuoro’s only liability in combat is the fact that he insists on using that stupid fan as his primary weapon.

Fans were usually an “accessory” weapon for areas where overt weapons were forbidden or to take down scrubs unworthy to die by the sword. Hakuoro is the damn leader of a country, can’t he just order one of his scrubs to give him a sword?

You can see that in ep. 15 when Touka gave him a sword, he fought on equal terms with Yue.

+5 to party size; Harem Gathering skill never fails (with Stealth Mask equipped).
Stupid? I think not. That fan is one hell of a unique artifact.
