Who Was That?

What the heck was up with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 12? When did Haruhi become so kind and normal all the sudden? And skilled at singing? It wasn’t until the end that she even seemed like herself.
Anyone know the songs/band that were used for the festival? Witch-Yuki on lead guitar was badass.

I don’t know, but that the band portion of the episode was frickin awesome! Soooo fluid. I wish Beck was animated like that
In short, it should make sense next week. It’s certainly something different for her, but not actually out of character. (Keep in mind that she basically bullied her way into the band, and made them distribute MD recordings of the actual songs essentially by fiat.)
I’m not sure who backed her up, but that’s Aya Hirano on vocals. You can find the CD single at tokyotosho for the full versions of the songs. They aren’t bad, honestly.
As far as the skill at singing goes, that thankfully got toned way down from the novel. In short, as the Mary Sue goddess of the Haruhiverse, she’s good at anything she wants to be good at. I actually find it fairly fitting that her skill level is at “seiyuu attempting actual music” instead of actually talented. (IIRC they do hang a lampshade over it somewhat by pointing out that she spent some time in the popular music club, too.)
The comments in Memento has the lyrics and titles to the song.
As for the band, they are a parody of ZONE. The band’s name in SHaruhi is basically just an anagram of ZONE. They even got the number of band members and positions down pat.
Here’s one of ZONE’s PV.
ADD] From the comments in Memento,
I was waiting for the moment she jumps into her Mecha and flies off into space but it never happened. In any case, this explains the 3 minutes of nothing in episode 9.
I was really looking forward to this episode after reading a couple of summaries of it. I thought it would be cool to see Haruhi’s soft side but in the end it felt kinda weird. “Who was that?” summarizes it pretty well.
The concert itself was pretty awesome though and I’ve been listening to the songs nonstop since I saw it. ^^
I like “nice” Haruhi. No Mikuru molestation this episode, either. I’m working up a twitch…I’m going to have to re-watch episode 9 for a fix.
Still, it was Yuki that made this episode for me.
How can you be at episode 12 and not grasp the fundamental concept that Haruhi is as good as she wants to be at anything she puts her mind to?
SHE’S GOD.
No, she’s Satan and we see Kyon suffering in hell.
Y’all just wait for Episode 13 and 14. You’ll start to see how Haruhi can act in such ways.
>>Witch-Yuki on lead guitar was badass.
Quoted for fucking truth. That is some great guitar skills and believe me, I’ve seen some of the best.
Her fortune telling skillz aren’t bad either!
The 2 songs used are: “God Knows…” and “Lost My Music”.
Go grab the insert cd, is out already. XD
