Those damn Na Tunk slave traders are out kidnapping women again, but one particular piece of cargo is heavily chained. Unfortunately, the chains are made out of really cheap metal, and the woman is able to free herself and claw-slaughter all the sailors. When Benawi and Kuruo reach the scene, the woman is the only one still alive, and she faints on the beach. Hakuoro is quite merciful, and assigns Eruru to care for the prisoner’s wounds.
It turns out that this woman’s name is Karura, and she and Eruru do a lot of chatting. Karura doesn’t remember her birthplace, but she seems to have a friendly past with Urutorii. Karura is skilled at making friends, and has a cute moment making a beautiful flower necklace for Aruru. In exchange for all the osake and medical treatment, Karura wants to fight in Hakuoro’s army, and in a duel with Benawi, she proves herself extremely skillful (she used to be a Nakuan). Knowing how much Karura enjoyed Rurouni Kenshin, Hakuoro has Shikinaro order a Zanbatō, and now we are just one hot harem female away from not being spoiled by the OP.
I was really hoping that Karura would be an Iriomoto-themed catgirl, but the tail seems more panther-like. However, the ears do not seem to be panther ears. Anyone have any ideas what type of animal-girl Karura is supposed to be? I bet Eruru knows, and those prison cell scenes were very cute!
Anyway, great episode, and it was fun watching Benawi and Karura go head to head. As fast and powerful as Karura was, I was quite impressed with Benawi’s finesse, as he was able to use Karura’s strengths against her. However, with her new weapon, Karura is definitely an overwhelming power now, so I look forward to watching Hakuoro’s army trample some evil grunts.

Well, I was thinking she’s supposed to be a Lion, thanks to how her tail is golden except for a brown tip. Also, Lions are probably the feline most associated with strength, which Karura has in no small supply. Her fighting Benawi was amusing since she was her own worst enemy in the fight, thanks to putting too much power into her attacks. She would have completely dominated him if she had her Huge-Chunk-O-Metal though. Seems like the best defense against her would simply be to GTFO of there.

Oboro must feel really inadequate this episode because Hakuoro ignores him and yet another Hero unit stronger than him is joining the hare–err, army.
Someone said that the samurai-trenchcoat is supposed to be even stronger.
The aforementioned trenchcoat samurai (Touko) has some sort of relationship with Karura (friends? rivals? both?). An iaijutsu specialist versus a zanbatoujutsushi. When both sides decide to join Hakuoro’s team, well… might as well as to go for the final boss. ^_^
She can probably pull the Nietono no Shana out of her trenchcoat.
I’m waiting for Touko’s appearance! Judging from past anime experiences, she is most likely to be my favourite female in this series. I do not know how to explain this, but it is so.
Production values dropped noticably in this episode after the initial opening. Thankfully it was not too detracting.
Karura seems to me as a ultra-mega-supah hawt Tigrrr Grrrrrrllll ^^. Oh my, lately there are only D-E cups showing in Utawarerumono o_O …
This show has become is so pleasingly weird…. harem/ rpg/ wannabe-hentai/ action/ fantasy/ comedy/ [whatever] all at once? That’s an Otaku banquet.

Utawarerumono’s rife with Shakugan references… like how Karura wields her Blutsauger and all that lolis around the protagonist.
The next thing you know, Eruru pulls off a Hecate on good ol’ Hakuoro. ^_^
I was thinking, maybe Eruru SHOULD “swing the other way”. And just let Hakuoro kick ass, take names, and collect exotic females.
