The connections between Vincent and Real draw closer, as he is tabbed by police as a Real Stalker. Real insists that a monster attacked her, but Iggy’s data banks have been erased, and Raul has set it up so that it looks like Real is suffering Post-traumatic Stress Disorder from being stalked. Even her “Prince”, Daedalus Yumeno (the scientist from the lab) at the medical center is involved in the cover-up, but haxxoring the lab computers brings up an article about Amrita cells and Proxy specimens. Someone’s trying to develop cells that can divide infinitely (no Hayflick Limit), thus inducing immortality.
Real begins to get an inkling of the massive cover-up, and gets away from Iggy to go check out her old apartment. It’s in shambles, and she knows now the attack wasn’t a dream. Moreover, she finds a necklace that belonged to Vincent in the rubble. Speaking of Vincent, the lab Proxy has tracked him down, and starts tossing mall-goers around like he was playing Dynasty Warriors. People get splattered everywhere, and Pino (the little girl Autoreiv from last episode) catches Vincent’s eye before assuming the Cogito praying stance. 42 are dead, and 48 are heavily injured, leaving Raul with a messy cleanup. At the same time, Vincent is finally cornered, but his panic abruptly turns to a mysterious calm.
Excellent follow-up! This episode was a great deal less confusing, and yet still chock full of details and mystery (and Wiki). I’m still not sure what’s going on with Pino and Vincent, or Vincent and Lab Proxy. However, after getting a good look at Lab Proxy, doesn’t he look like some badass old dude smoking a cigar? The first thing that came to my mind was “Cid”. Too bad we didn’t get to see his Musou attack. Anyway, my curiosity is now seriously piqued (e.g. is Daedalus male or female?), and I can’t wait for the next episode! The character section on the Wiki entry for Ergo Proxy was most informative.
The most important revelation, however, was that both Real and Raul are extremely skilled at hiding the fact that they read Sea Slugs! at work. Nicely played, you two.

It seems as if the Proxy doesn’t want to kill Vincent. Either the proxy merges with him to become that monster as seen in the first episode or maybe – just maybe – the Proxy wants to hump Vincent. I don’t know why but I found the number of casualties compared to the wounded odd. Normally, everybody dies or very few die but 50:50 looks odd to me.
Also I start to wonder why those autoraves look so butt-ugly. Iggy looks like some monster from Quake. Autoraves are modern PCs, aren’t they? If Iggy was around me all, I’d probably scream “Transform and roll out!11″ hoping that he would at least look better as a car.
You gotta get the iAutoraves if you want one that looks good. I think Pino is an iAutorave.
I just can say that I’m in total awe of Ergo Proxy. I’ll probably need to marathon it when it’s complete, to connect better all the threads.I hope it keeps the plot consistent, but as for the visual part, EP is -omega-. Made me want to to Florence (it’s 300Km from here) to see those statues closer, you know? I have this silly idea of getting some ITA cosplayers (there are some very very good) and shoot a photo or two on the spot. If they don’t jail us.
I don’t think they’d jail you. Firence is flooded with tourists anyway. I’m sure the Japanese tourists would really appreciate those cosplayers.
I am sooo happy that Ergo Proxy hasn’t let me down so far, and I had quite high expectations from it as well! My theory about Vincent is that his human form is just a shell hiding a proxy. In the mall scene everyone but him were paralyzed as well, definately fishy! ^^ Also in that scene when the perambulator (sorry, I had to run that through a dictionary because I couldn’t for the life of me come up with a translation for it.. it sounds kind of stupid too, so please correct me
) were bouncing down the stairs I instantly thought about The Untouchables.
Ah, maybe babycarriage would be better? Is that even a word? I feel so stupid.
Argh, sorry for the double post, my mind is all over the place today. I forgot to say that I haven’t been able to see any pictures on this site for a while now. All I get is those red cross markers all over the place. I haven’t seen anyone else mention this so is the problem with me?
Hmmmm that Vincent IS the other Proxy seems logical. Perhaps he’s like the anti-Bruce Banner, transforming in times of extreme calm rather than rage/anxiety. Ten bucks says next ep Proxy 1(2?) swings at him and he blocks it easily before his skin turns black….
Personally, they just love to leave you hanging on this show… Thought maybe vincent is a better proxy? Possibly like one that is in-control of his proxy-ness… then why would lir have the same neckless? Could she be the mother of all proxy’s? As a quick check in my powerbook’s dictionary shows ergo means origin in latin. So could be a connection? Could lir be one of them, just one that was “tamened/not insane” as here grandfather looks like a hybrid of one… Not to mention those talking statues…
Hehe, iAutoraves… LOL
In case you haven’t found out though, Daedalus is male… at least if the official site is to be trusted (it says “Romdo no bishounen” and “Ril no oujisama”…).

???
Ergo = therefore
‘Ergo Proxy’ is a “pun” on the Descartes phrase “Cogito Ergo Sum” (“I think therefore I am”). Cogito (that’s the name of the “virus” that gives autoraves knowledge of themselves) Ergo Proxy. It implies that the “Proxies” have knowledge of themselves, or, a “conscience”, most probably caused by this Cogito virus. Maybe that’s why the Pino iAutorave has got “Cogito” when the Proxy just passed nearby her, in the mall massacre.Or maybe Vincent is the vessel/key/creator of Cogito itself. Still early….(even in ep.3 we don’t have much about it, but there’s an uber-kawaii Pino outfit, and a kickass op).
Ah, and if I recall it correctly, that would be the reason why the “whore” iAutorave gets Cogito (Ep.1 scene) – because the Proxy was there or nearby (and Lil finds his “marks” near the window).
I figured Daedulus was male, but in episode 1 I just assumed he was a woman. Plus that voice and the fact that (as Utena shows) females can be princes, too!
Personally, I don’t think that Vincent is the other Proxy. I do think there is some connection between Proxy 2 and Vincent, but I’m of the opinion that Vincent was skulking around Lir’s apartment that night and we won’t find out why until a later flashback.
Vincent has an alter ego, I swear…
And if you talk about the title and puns, I think it’s punning a bit on Ego here… You can call the show Ego Poxy if you don’t like r’s… or if you’ve seen the OP in ep 3, maybe Emo Proxy…
In episode 3 it clearly shows her name as Real Mayar on her ID card.

Cyberbeing: thanks! Now the name of the female lead is clarified. There’s some weird engrish/jokes/badspelling in this anime, or maybe is just techno-jargon. For example: in a paper that Real has, “autoraves” is written “autoreivs”.
Now time to haxxor her bank account, ID theft FTW!
Ummm who’s Real? DOnt u mean Lil? (unless ur sayin it in Japanese)
