Strap onto pain express, cause it’s leaving town like Yuuji. Yuuji’s all depressed about not being human anymore, and everyone else is wallowing around in a lovesick muddle. Kazumi wants to confess to Yuuji but is afraid that Yuuji might be a Torch; Shana wants to surprise Yuuji with her yukata but she never actually told him that they were going to the festival (Fem-trick alert!!!!). Meanwhile, Marjorie’s having a hard time dissuading her toadies from following her, and Marco predicts that it will be raining booze tonight.
Eventually Shana gets tired of waiting, and goes with Chigusa to the festival… only to find him there with Kazumi! At that moment, Kazumi looks through the monocle and finds that Yuuji is a Torch, and now he has to chase after her and explain the situation. When Shana tries to body-block him with a glomp, Yuuji even yells at her and continues on chasing after Kazumi. Just to complicate matters, Ogata confesses to Tanaka in front of tons of women, and he all but has to lower the shoulder and plow through her to get to the Haridan. At this point, the creepy Professor and Domino (who are behind the distortion, and use the osprey statues to launch their spell) attack, and everyone realizes that everyone else is also an important character.
Wow, looks like all that distortion that Khamsin was reporting was caused by intense dorama. Only Satou had a good time this episode, as pretty much everyone else drank deeply from the heartache fountain. I like how Ogata finally confessed to Tanaka after spotting him trailing after Marjorie (who was spilling out of her yukata, Tsunade-style!), but did it front of tons of women to put Tanaka in a pinch… too bad Marjorie bailed him out with the Fuzetsu! Bros before hos, baby!
Yuuji was actually pretty cool this episode, standing up to Shana and having some serious angst over his Torch status. How will this affect which colleges he can get into? Do Torches count as minorities? Overall an excellent episode; I think Shakugan no Shana is finally hitting its stride. Also, Chigusa looked hot in that yukata.
