Sydonai tells his drinking buddies that Yuuji’s definitely hiding a pound of crack and the Reiji Maigo in a body cavity, and then we see Yuuji marvel at how much Shana loves melon bread. With that said, it’s time for an extended flashback. We see Shana in her battle stance fighting against the skeleton Shiro. In spite of her sweet kung fu moves, she can’t land a hit, but still gets a consolation melon bread from meido Wilhelmina. Later we get some mysterious chatting where Wilhelmina mentions that Shana is the best candidate, even though she’s just some orphan they found accidentally. Oh yeah, they happen to live on an island in the sky, Tendou-Kyu.
Shana continues on her training while Wilhelmina goes to buy some stuff in town. Unfortunately, some meido-cons follow Wilhelmina in hopes that Tendou-Kyu is full of meidos, like an episode of Girls Bravo. Wilhelmina senses the trap, drops all the yaoi doujinshi she picked up, and tries to escape only to be caught by the Thousand Martial Leader, Orgone. As the other Tomogara (Eye Vine and random-robo-samurai-7) wander around, suddenly they spot Tendou-Kyu. It seems Shana finally set a trap for Shiro and was able to land a hit. Unfortunately, Shiro is some kind of uber-sore-loser and summons a ton of energy that destroys the buildings and cloaking on the island.
This was a good episode that showed viewers at home the important elements of raising a proper Flame Haze. With just the right balance of rib-breaking and melon bread offering, your Flame Haze will know how to kick ass without having to get drunk all the time. I enjoyed seeing more of Shana’s past, and the tension was very nice. I look forward to seeing how all these new characters played into shaping who Shana is today.
I find it funny that a Flame Haze candidate has to use a microwave to cook food. Also, this episode had tons of great pan shots and a really cute eyecatch.
