Fate is in the hospital from taking critical damage to her linker core, but she’s ok. Meanwhile, Amy is perplexed at how thoroughly haxxed they were; in the span of 9 minutes Masked Kicker blocked the Divine Buster extension, threw an instant long-range bind, haxxored the strong Administration security system at Amy’s house, avoided scanners, and ambushed Fate on another world. Just the world-traveling should have taken 20 minutes, so things are clearly not right. Even the Cloud Knights are suspicious of their new ally.
Unfortunately, Hayate’s condition worsens, and Yuuno explains that the Book of Darkness is a study tool that has been genetically modified to become a vampiric weapon of destruction. The travel and memory functions have been scrambled, and the book will munch on the master if new pages aren’t written quickly enough. Moreover, upon completion the book uses up all the master’s power to destroy everything and then reincarnate. This ability to absorb the master and reincarnate is what makes the book (which is really called the Tome of the Night Sky) so hard to seal. However, the Lieze twins reassure Admiral Graham that the sealing will go as planned this time.
Not too much action this time, but this was a great setup episode. The mystery is unfolding, and those catgirls are kinda suspicious. No one haxxors Amy from the outside (even Chrono doesn’t mess with her), and they spent an unusually long time following the Lieze sisters. I don’t know if they’re in cahoots with Masked Kicker or what, but something smells like cat poo around here.
In addition to the mystery, a lot of other cool things happened. There was the sweet motherly Lindy action, happy Fate, and Shamal trying to go incognito. Even the eyecatch was noteworthy… poor Zafira. Meanwhile, there’s a definite sense of doom as Vita struggles to remember that the Tome of the Night Sky actually destroys the master upon completion, but if I know Nanoha, everyone will team up in the end as friends to defeat the evil book. Reading sux!

This was great; just as great as other episodes.
I was concerned about Fate-chan, and I’m glad she is OK.
