It’s time for the class trip to Kyoto, where the girls get to visit such locations as the Kiyomizu-dera. Unfortunately, it seems that members of the Hougan-Ji group are lurking. Kamo suspects that class member Setsuna is one of the enemies, but after a brief misunderstanding (where she grabs Negi’s genitals and threatens to destroy them T__T), everyone realizes they are all allies.
However, the real villain finally shows herself as a glasses-wearing woman with a penchant for large monkey suits. She’s also got allies, such as Tsukuyomi, a young Shinmeiryuu swordsman. The bad guys manage to get their hands on Konoka, and it’s revealed that Konoka unknowingly possesses magical power that dwarfs even that of the Thousand Master. The Hougan-Ji group plans to brainwash Konoka and use her as a magical battery. But when Monkey Lady (sorry, didn’t catch her name) starts giving Konoka’s butt a spanking, Setsuna flies into a rage and beats the stuffing out of all the enemies. Back at campus, it looks like the Headmaster may have to send Eva out as insurance…
I never did like Tsukuyomi’s character, as it never made sense that she would be working for the Hougan-Ji group. I don’t remember it being mentioned in the manga either. Anyway, it’s time for one of the more important arcs in the Negima world to begin, and I’m sure everyone enjoyed the extra screen time given to Setsuna. I think this is the point where it becomes clear that Mahou Sensei Negima is much more of a shounen-esque series than a harem series. On an unrelated note, that rock-to-rock-for-love challenge looked mad easy. Can’t you just walk in a straight line? It’s probably rigged just like those damnable carnival games.

Kind of a late comment. Tsukuyomi WAS in the manga, and was featured in books 4, 5, and 6. It didn’t mention why she specifically was working for Amagazaki (monkey lady), but after all, the Shinmei school was in the East, and as it was said, some people in the East didn’t like Western Mages. Same with kotaro. And as far as the English versions of the manga, Fate’s reasoning haven’t been even hinted at yet.
