Ginban Kaleidoscope 3

Ginban’s starting to go through the familiar sports anime phase here, as Tazusa deals with the pressure of competing against Shitou Kyoko in the upcoming trials. Not too much actually happens in this episode, which was somewhat disappointing. Tazusa has Peet give her all the answers on her English and History exams(much like Sai and Hikaru), and is thus able to relieve herself of the final exams stress. However, she’s unable to mentally visualize her routine for the upcoming trial, partially because there’s a superstitious saying about screwing up twice = you’ll screw up one more time (and this happens to be the third time). Sure enough, she fails to deliver during crunch time. However, as Peet points out, now that she’s choked three times, the “curse” shouldn’t apply to her anymore. Next episode looks like comeback time, since it’s her last chance to prove herself.

Given that I never really had high expectations of Ginban, this lackluster episode didn’t come as much of a shock. After all, there’s only so much you can milk out of the ghostly possession slant. I figure that the skating aspect will come into the foreground now, and we can expect the usual “defeated but come back stronger than ever” schtick. For what it’s worth, at least the skating scenes were fairly well animated, much like Suzuka’s occasional torso-twisting leaps.
