Futakoi Alternative 11

We get a flashback/voice-over telling us about how back in the post WWII-era, the Zaibatsu (the Japanese financial cartel) was dismantled, but secretly hid underground. The Zaibatsu started the top-secret Wadatsumi Facility, and worked on the Ikaros Project (Squid Project). The purpose of this was to combine squid and humans to form deadly weapons; this is how Ika Fire was created.

Ika Fire beats up the police force, although Dirty Harry puts up a good fight. The problem is that Ika Fire can regenerate, and he’s after Rentarou and Souju. Rentarou hones his resolve, and tells Souju that he will survive and reunite her with Sara. With his old gang members, Rentarou is able to beat the squid in a strange highway race (wtf…) and save the day. Later, the messenger from Kimihiko tells Rentarou about the connection between Wadatsumi and the wedding between Sara and Kimihiko. Rentarou races to the ceremony, armed with a new weapon: a metal bat that does lightning damage and prevents squid regeneration.

This episode was rather strange, and not that much of it made sense. In the end, it felt like everything was just sorta thrown together haphazardly. It smacked of Dr. Evil-ism, where Ika Fire simply left, instead of cheating and killing Rentarou on the highway. The flashback did start to tie the whole story together, and add some much needed suspense to the series, but I was slightly disappointed with this episode as a whole.

I thought this episode was amazing. Don’t tell me you didn’t love the fight between Hariyama and Ika Fire…

After waiting almost a month for the next episode, I found it rather disappointing too. It wasn’t really bad but I like Futakoi Alternative rather for the slow-paced episodes about the triangle than the highspeed brainfuck eps. Of course they want to conclude the Ika mystery, so this one was kind of overdue.
