Suzuka 20

Both Honoka and Yamato are bummed about their breakup, and soon the whole school knows about it. Most of the track team wants to kill Yamato when Honoka doesn’t show up to practice, but Kobayakawa thinks this could be his chance. He and Yamato also get selected to the relay team, just to remind everyone that the series is still sorta about track and field. Before Yamato is executed, however, Honoka finally returns to the team, thanks to a pep talk from Nana. Nana has completely scrambled Honoka’s mind, and now Honoka is determined to build up her self-confidence and confess again to Yamato when she’s ready.

Miki is the last to hear about the breakup, but then she sees Suzuka still being cold towards Yamato. Suzuka explains what a jerk Yamato is, but Miki doesn’t believe a word of it; after all, why is Yamato so upset, and why did Honoka come back? Miki confronts Yamato about it, and Yamato explains that he couldn’t confirm Suzuka’s suspicions about her (Suzuka) being the cause of the rift. In some bizarre, brilliant genjutsu, Miki manages to con both dinner and dessert out of this moment, before slyly complimenting Yamato. What are her intentions?!

What the heck happened to Honoka in this episode? Suddenly she thinks she’s not worthy of Yamato and that it’s her fault for the breakup? Clearly Nana has Jedi powers, and that’s why she’s a pop star. Meanwhile, Miki seems to have two sides to her ninja-abilities. I don’t know if it’s because her camouflage is in for dry cleaning or what, but she’s the last person to find out the scoop on Yamato. Moreover, her confession about getting a 20 on the chemistry test is such a miscalculation that it leads to one of those horrible, awkward moments where one person admits a mortifying secret that no one else was pushing to know. On the other hand, Miki’s analysis of Yamato is completely accurate, and she works him like she’s got the Yamato Strategy Guide after practice. I like how Miki constantly reports to Suzuka-dono, but I think the effect would be enhanced if she reported on one knee, and then disappeared into the rafters. However, I’m worried Miki might start to crush on Yamato and betray her master, Suzuka.

Meanwhile, the complete shafting of Kobayakawa continues. Yamato gets his name wrong (“Kobayashi”), Honoka denies him the rebound, he fails to challenge his lival, and he gets drawn really really badly in some of the scenes. Stop picking on Kobayakawa!!!

> her confession about getting a 20 on the chemistry test

I just had this weird vision of Miki joining Karuga, Tomo and Osaka in the Blockheads Dance when she announced her score. And re:2×2=HashibaMikiden, I’d love to see Yasunobumaru and the Specially Trained Splashy Crocodile.

Haha yes, perhaps Miki is really a member of the ‘covert’ (from Gokujo Seitokai).

I wonder though how much Suzuka really took Yamato’s comments at face value. Perhaps she did, or perhaps doubt will start seeping into her once her initial anger wears out and she realizes the truth.

Hmm, will there be 24 or 26 episodes? With so few episodes left, I don’t see how this could have a satisfying end which involves Suzuka other than something forcefully arranged.

It’s quite possible though that Yasunobu kills Yamato as soon as he finds out that he had a date-o with Miki. Honoka, finally completely nuts, will of course kill Miki for this. In return, Yasunobu kills Honoka then and he’ll be stabbed by Kobayashi. The track and field team has no other chantsu than committing either harakiri or sepekku because of this shame. Essentially, she’ll be The Last Suzuka. “You are here alone again In your sweet insanity…”

Ah I forgot: Spoiler alert.

26 eps. It seriously seems like it going to be a rushed ending. Is the manga different I wonder? Anyone reads it?

Nice review again :) This episode is obviously made to build up thoughts on how it will end, and of course, to build up anger towards yamato the idiot. I really hope that last 2 episodes are all about bloody yamato lying on ground, while Honoka, and possibly Suzuka, are beating him up with sticks and iron bars, and the final image in the anime is dying, lonely and helpless Yamato lying on the ground. That should release some of my frustration and anger towards that stupid ass noob.
