AnimeNation reports today that:

Once Upon A Time In China Anime: The Warrior

The 30 million yuan Mainland animated feature of 《黄飞鸿之勇创天下》 Once Upon A Time In China, written, art directed, and action choreographed by Tsui Hark is rolling out on screens in December – possibly on Dec 25, the eve of Christmas. Regrettably, Huang Zhan, who signed on to write the music, died before he could complete the music. His unfinished work was subsequently passed to Peter Kam Pau-tat.

After Tsui Hark joined the project, he met up with director Fu Yan. Going through the original drawings, he thought the villains were lackluster and banal. So, he came up with new looks and designs. He said that in an animated feature, the villain would give the audience the most lasting impressions, and hence, the villain must have very unique look. According to Fu Yan, Tsui Hark has also crafted and invested an odd assortment of skills to complement the anime.

Plot: After defeating Chi You, Huang Di sealed him in the Stone of Seven Colours which Nuwa used to mend the sky. Subsequently, the Stone surfaces in the mortal world. Legend has it that whoever possesses the Stone will rule the world, leading to many scrambling to find it. And so, it’s up to Wong Fei Hong and his disciples to stop them, thus preventing the soul of Chi You from being reborn and bring catastrophe to the world.

Check the four-minute streaming video trailer here. Sounds like a plot that could use some chocobos!
