It’s just another day and another new town. The trio tries to book a train to Joney, but a missile comes out of the sky and destroys the train. With everyone stranded, there’s not much to do except help poor sailors who are out of toilet paper. Joshua suggests riding on Dann, but Van replies that even he can’t stay in Dann that long. Moreover, it seems like Van does not know all that much about his armor. A solution appears in the form of Vivian, Meunier’s Salvage Union’s leader, who wants Van as hired muscle. All he has to do is protect their excavation efforts from some weird pirates and he’ll earn 1 million in cash and a express trip to Jonet. Over at Jonet, the circuit board is still being analyzed, so Carmen also asks for an analysis of the gold carvings she stole from B-5-10.

As it turns out, the sailor that Van helped before is a wacko, Engrish-spouting sailor named Captain Kaiji. Captain Kaiji feels that everything in the sea is fair game, and tries to freeze the water up and steal the excavated ruins using his sub. The Salvage Union’s cranes can’t get beneath the ice, so Van has to do battle against the sub and its funky missiles. The battle is at a bit of a standstill, but eventually Joshua whips up a plan to detonate explosives simultaneously to crack the ice. The falling ice blocks screw up the sub’s sonar, and Dann switches to sword/autopilot mode, and slices the sub in half. The trio gets the reward, and surprise surprise, Wendy spots her brother on the other side of the tracks in Jonet.

With such an Engrishy villain, you’d think this episode would be more interesting. Unfortunately, it was actually pretty boring, and the battling left much to be desired. The silver lining of this is that Michael’s finally been spotted, and so we may get some real plot development soon. It’d be nice if we could learn the importance of the circuit board and the gold carvings, too. I like how everyone tries to abuse Joshua, but it seems like he’s the brains behind the brawn.

Yes! I thought the same thing at first! It’s interesting that both Michael and Wendy have such striking green eyes. I bet Michael is a good cook, and has a ninja lusting after him as well.

You’re right, the episode was boring but I found Kaiji rather helarious. I love his way of saying “thank you” and “Saiko”. The toilet scene was also rather interesting (^_^;;) You have to admit that the guy’s got class but it’s a special kind of class. He’s the kind of guy who will go into a fight just for the thrill of it and then retreats peacefully when the fight is over (the scene where he and his crew appear from the water at the end was also helarious). Probably the best word to describe his performance is “Saiko”!!

What I’m wondering is what would happen if Dann really did get stuck and ran out of energy for the autopilot to return it. Is there some way to recharge Dann and send it back up, or would it be forever earthbound? Also, Van needs to read his owner’s manual; this is like the millionth time that someone has asked him how Dann comes from the sky.
