Upon getting out of the underground cave, Kazuma and the others are met by Leon Hart the XIV, the 14th King of Monaco (yeah, gotta love the name Yakitate Japan 41 icon razz ), who gives a public apology to them for all the trouble that has happened to them. In addition, with Pierrot picking the semi-finalist to be France, USA, China, and Japan, the King announces the next baking challenge: bake a sports bread worthy enough for F1 Grand Prix racers.

With the new topic in mind, team Japan begins their preparation by gathering some ingredients at the King’s Monaco castle, but the King has the group answer an interesting question of who a baker should feed their bread to upon baking a delicious bread. Kazuma of course comes up with the answer, which is “yourself”, as a baker needs to taste-test their bread before giving it out to the public. However, when the group returns back to home base and tells their story to Ryuu and Sophie, Sophie immediately gets suspicious that her father Kirisaki Yuuichi is working on something devious behind the scenes to sabotage the Japanese team. The Pyramid investigator fills in some more of the history behind Yuuichi and the King by pointing out how the King was an artisan under Yuuichi at one point in time. So the road to winning the Monaco Cup continues to be hazardous for team Japan.

For whatever reason, this episode seemed to pull out a lot more gags than previous episodes, but each gag was executed pretty well Yakitate Japan 41 icon smile I especially got a kick out of the scene between Kawachi, Suwabara, and the Monaco Castle guard who tries to take Suwabara’s sword away Yakitate Japan 41 icon biggrin

The episode didn’t exactly follow the manga as Chairman Ran actually committed suicide not ran away like the one Pantasia guy that Yukino used to sabatoge Kawachi in the semifinals of the Newcomer’s Battle. Pierrot didn’t rescue himself and was actually rescued by Pharaoh which during the dream sequence, the pile of sand became a pyrmaid. They didn’t show Team Japan transerving through Pharaoh curvy passageway.
