Shakugan no Shana 02

We get a ton of explanation this time about the battle against the Guze no Tomogara and their Rinne slaves. Using Fuzetsu to dislocate an area from the world’s flow, the Rinne gather food for the Guze no Tomogara. However, the Guze no Tomogara don’t actually eat the humans, but rather their existence; it is then as if the human never existed at all. To ease the shock of all these existences disappearing, the Flame Hazes use Torches to replace the human existences. These Torches gradually burn out, but at least the shock is not as sudden.

The example used to illustrate the process is Yukari. She’s got very little time left, and in spite of Yuuji’s best efforts, she’s fading fast. Yuuji tries to get Ike to help, since Yukari had a crush on Ike, and they have a little luck raising her genki level. They even take a cute photo together. Too bad it’s all for naught, and when Yukari fades away, even her place on the photo disappears. It’s all very shocking, but Shana is very dismissive about the whole thing. It’s at this point that Yuuji asks her name. Shana is embarrassed and says that when she needs to be distinguished from the other Flame Hazes, she goes by “Nietono no Shana”, the name of her katana. Yuuji then names her “Shana” and that is that.

Although a lot of interesting information is laid in place, the explanation grew pretty tiresome after a while. Heck, even Shana got tired of all the questioning. At least the passing of Yukari was quite touching. Additionally, we got a hint of Shana cuteness with all those melon breads (5?!) and more of her shrieking “Shut up, shut up, shut up!!!” when frustrated.

I find it kinda jarring whenever Alastor speaks. If Shana was any older, I would swear it was just an excuse to keep zooming in on her chest.
