Some Anime Related News

by Kabitzin on September 16, 2005 in Random Stuff

I was browsing through the Anime News Network and saw two things that caught my eye:

  1. Do As Infinity splits up: Arg, wtf, nooooooes.
  2. Hayao Miyazaki interview: I guess the man doesn’t normally do interviews, so this is a rare treat. Miyazaki predicts that Japan will experience a disaster like what happened in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina =(.

My favorite part of the interview:

Furthermore, Disney wields no creative control. There is a rumour that when Harvey Weinstein was charged with handling the US release of Princess Mononoke, Miyazaki sent him a samurai sword in the post. Attached to the blade was a stark message: “No cuts.”

The director chortles. “Actually, my producer did that. Although I did go to New York to meet this man, this Harvey Weinstein, and I was bombarded with this aggressive attack, all these demands for cuts.” He smiles. “I defeated him.”

Wow, owned. Just thought I’d share.

Sad news on DAI. I used to be a decent fan of theirs like 2-3 yrs ago so hearing they’ll break up kind of sucked.

Ironically enough, I’m actually listening to one of their songs as I type this comment (柊(acoustic version)).

even though my interest in DAI has been waning (cause of the way avex markets their artistes) since I started to listen to them (from the beginning), it is really sad news…. sigh….

Damn US licensors, why do they need to cut? To feel like they did something & justify putting 9/10 of the credits page american names?

WHAT? DAI can’t just break up, that just sucks the big one. I got into there music about a year ago and they are probably one of my favourite j-pop bands…T-T

I’m glad I was never really interested in Do As Infinity’s stuff. It’s easier to accept a breakup :P
