Oku-sama wa Mahou Shoujo 04

Kabitzin on August 18, 2005 · in Bewitched Agnes

Nothing starts the day off right like accusing your co-tenant of reading pr0n, only to find he was really reading the book of your cheating, scummy husband. The incident prompts Ureshiko to try to go talk to Tamotsu, but when he tries to force a kiss, the discussion is ended. We learn a lot more about Ureshiko’s past this time, whether it be her mom telling Ureshiko how great it’d be if the town never changed or Ureshiko refusing Tamotsu’s attempts at kissing, even after marriage. We also learn that although kisses are forbidden, sexx0r and everything else is totally ok. After such a crappy morning, Ureshiko is tuckered out, and the landlady tells Kagura that Ureshiko has heat fatigue.

When Kagura hears about this, he believes the story and tries to whip up some stamina drink. Because it involves garlic and bananas, he has to go out to buy groceries; uber-bored Sayaka spots him and decides to use him for her amusement. Sayaka’s interest is especially perked when Kagura agrees that he’d take her to an amusement park if there was one in town, and so she goes off to play a RL version of Roller Coaster Tycoon. Naturally, Ureshiko goes to stop her, and there is a cool juxtaposition of Sayaka and Tamotsu asking Ureshiko why she is so obstinate and particular. Even sick, Ureshiko is able to win by dropping down yellow snow (ewww…), and Kagura finds her and cheers her up. Meanwhile, Sayaka watches the two snuggle and she’s really pissed!

In spite of the cheesy fanservice, this is quickly becoming my favorite series of the summer. Ureshiko’s plight is so complicated, because she is torn between trying to please everyone but herself. The memory of her mother was kinda strange, though, because it’s mentioned that the town was handed over to other managers without problems… Ureshiko needs to watch some sports anime to learn to trust her team! I guess Ureshiko is afraid that the next manager won’t let the town remain as a retirement home for mahou shoujo or something.

Meanwhile, the other characters are really great as well. Kagura is totally tolerable, and he does great work with the book analysis and the story about wanting to jump 2.32 m. I also dig Sayaka, who has some major skulking camper skills. Sayaka is really starting to learn how hard it is to be manager, as she struggles between her desire to act older than she is, and the fact that she should be young in her position.

Finally, that stamina drink kinda creeped me out. And Ureshiko’s mom ruined her life.

I wonder whether you’re the only one still watching this. I only watched the second episode because I had somehow downloaded 1-2, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered. The kiddy fan-service almost made me want to puke. There’s certainly similar fan-service is other series as well but here you have the contrast between grown-up characters and kiddies. Ureshiko is certainly likeable even though she reminds me of an older Miharu but the rest of the characters looks just horribly odd or ugly in one way or another.
