Rumor has it that the database was corrupt, causing site slowness today. I’m not sure I totally buy it, but the host decided a good fix would be to restore a 5-day-old backup. Unfortunately, since we update way too much for our own good, this would have resulted in a lot of lost posts. Good thing I went in today when the problem occured and downloaded a copy of the “corrupt” database. Looks like the support folks were finally able to append today’s data onto the old backup. Thank goodness!

The fix actually appears to be permanent this time, as the support staff installed mod_dosevasive on the server.
