Heliopolis is destroyed, but most people get off on escape pods. Kira rescues one broken pod, and it turns out Frey is on the rescued pod. Meanwhile, Murrue decides they should try to run silently to the Atlantic Federation Command Center’s port, the Umbrella of Artemis. Unfortunately, Lau sees through this pathetic plan, and the Archangel is forced to fight. Kira is cheered up when his friends join the bridge crew, and Muu La Flaaga launches to defend the ship alongside Kira.
In the ensuing battle, Natalie gets her own stock footage, and shouts “[Blah blah blah German stuff] FIRE” about a million times, as Sai and Miriella look on in embarassment. Meanwhile, most of the ZAFT pilots go for Kira, only to be interrupted by Athrun’s angsting. Kira’s performance is pretty pitiful, and his suppression fire technique results in an empty battery and a shutdown of his phase shift armor. This lets Athrun capture the Strike Gundam, but then Muu La Flaaga launches a surprise attack on Lau Le Cruz’s ship. The Archangel then shoots a Launcher-Striker pack to Kira, and everyone gets back to the ship safely. Athrun’s comrades are totally pissed at him, and at Artemis, Muu La Flaaga tells Kira to lock the OS so no one else can pilot Strike. Good advice, seeing as the Artemis guards are all armed and pissy.
The battle was not that interesting, although the Gundam units circling the Archangel reminded me of the IE logo. I was surprised to learn that Lau drives a Nascar-class ship, and that he couldn’t sense Muu’s sneak attack. Can’t wait till Kira hides the mouse, so that no one can use the OS since they don’t know the keyboard shortcuts =D.

Yay for people watching Seed years late. I’m currently catching up because a friend keeps bothering me to watch GSD, but I hate seeing shows out of order. It’s fun to read someone else’s recaps anyway.
