Kabitzin and I were discussing this a few days ago, but it seems that the size of our trio’s blog entries have been steadily increasing every since the early days of Sea Slugs. The size of Kungfucius’s entries is typically a function of schoolwork, so they might be longer these days simply due to the ending of the spring semester. As for myself, I can see that many of my posts are starting to bloat up with unnecessary play-by-play style coverage of an episode, which is not really what I was aiming for – I’ll leave that for the more thorough bloggers like Memento, whose storybook arrangement of pics-text-pics-text leads you by the hand through each episode.
I’m always surprised how blogs like Momotato’s or the now defunct david.anime manage to capture the essence of an episode in a paragraph, or even in a few choice quips, in the extreme case of Momotato. I can’t really speak for Kabitzin, but I suspect that I became rather long-winded after seeing so many other blogs go into detailed analysis of every episode. However, in the spirit of “staying true to yourself” that is often preached in all these anime series we watch, I’m going to make an active effort to stick with the style I originally envisioned, making each entry contain less recap and more thoughts.
I find everyone’s blogging style (and any subsequent evolutions) quite interesting to observe, and well-maintained archives make this a breeze (so be sure to maintain yours!). For instance, moyism’s blog used to do straight up captures of every other frame, but now also includes tons of hilarious Gundam Seed Destiny 4-koma he managed to dig up, with cute graphics fronting the recent entries. Matthew’s site, on the other hand, has burgeoned from its humble beginnings to a multi-industry enterprise of sorts. Of course, there are some things that are reliable standbys, like Ten’s penchant for plugging Major at every opportunity (it’s a good show, really!) and Stripey’s penchant for….sis-con? Every anime blogger out there has a unique voice, but it might just take some time to develop. So to all the old-fogey bloggers refusing to die and the raw recruits starting out for the first time, I send a hearty ganbatte!
On a totally unrelated note, GRRM >>>>>> RJ. End of story.

True true, it’s pretty neat to see how writing styles have changed over the +15 months I’ve been reading Sea Slugs — still, I have to say that I really *like* the play-by-play writing style — it’s a lot more personable, and I always crack up after reading the quips that you throw in-between the action (i.e. “Dammit GSD, quit playing with my heart!”)
PS: Regarding RJ, harem anime = Aes’Sedai ^^
While GRRM is > RJ, he’s taking just about as long to write each installment. :-/
Hopefully the quality will increase correspondingly as a result :p
Fifteen months and counting. Time moves too fast. Man, are we considered old-timers now? ;p
BTW, I took an unbreakable vow to pimp Major at every opportunity (pretty much like this one). ^____^
haha no no not sis-con. I’m just into kawaii girls and a lot of them happen to very VERY cute sisters. An occasional meido-san too but hmmm let’s not go into that…
Stripey> You mean like Mayu Asuka? =)
A major w00000t! for play-by-play. I enjoy your style every time ^_^
