Many have been saying this episode is the Seed version of Revenge of the Sith, and with good reason. As Rey and Shinn approach Athrun’s Gouf with orders to take no prisoners, Athrun tries to convince Shinn that the chairman has been misleading them all. Utilizing the Gouf’s whip, he manages to knock away Shinn’s rifle, and his arm cannons keep his pursuers at bay (though their cheapo energy shields prevent him from actually doing damage). Naturally, Rey butts in to defend his “papa”, and reminds Shinn that he had promised to help make the chairman’s vision come true, no matter who he had to fight. When Athrun pleads to at least let Meyrin off, Rey counters that she is now a traitor, and her life is forfeit. Shinn is torn, and we are treated to some Shinji-esque internal angst. Unfortunately, the dark side within him wins, and he goes seed on Athrun. The Gouf is literally shredded to pieces and falls to the sea, and Shinn and Rey return to base. Cagalli’s bodyguard, who was present at the alliance meeting (presumable to represent Orb?) was aware of what was going on, and had tailed Athrun in a sea vessel. Surprise surprise, he manages to rescue Athrun and Meyrin from the sea. Meanwhile, back at Gilbratar, ZAFT’s upper management is in an uproar because of the betrayal of two key members. Dullindal orders a search of the Hawke sister’s rooms, which Gladys is understandably angry about. Lunamaria is also being interrogated because Meyrin was her sister. Later, Rey and Shinn report back, and are commended by the chairman. As Shinn passes Lunamaria in the hall, she breaks down and cries on him, and they hold each other. Uh oh, I sense some major rebound action here.
First of all, WTF is up with Lunamaria? Shinn just “killed” your crush and your sister, and you’re going to rebound to him? She totally has a military grunt mindset, and is convinced that Athrun and Meyrin were traitors. Shinn is her baby now I guess (as implied in the next episode). Man, I have lost a lot of respect for her. On the other hand, Meyrin gets major props for having the courage to help Athrun and do what she believes in. Dammit GSD, quit playing with my heart!
I also am hoping that we’ll find out more about Gladys and Dullindal’s relationship, and about their breakup. Undoubtedly when Gladys fell in love with him, he was an idealistic, fresh-eyed youth who truly wished to change the world, but somehow got sidetracked into becoming a closet megalomaniac due to this single event. The inability to control fate seems to be a major theme among all the main characters, and causes them to desire the power (e.g. uber Gundams) to change things. At any rate, I sense some rocky roads coming up in this relationship – when Gladys frowned and said “We need to talk,” I’m sure all you guys in relationships winced

I just found out the chairman’s first name is “Gilbert”. Man, he kicks some serious game though with the ladies and the young male pilots! The relationships in this episode had a really high wince factor, especially with Lunamaria’s rebound o’ death. Doesn’t she realize that everything Shin touches turns to crap?
I feel like somewhere Meyrin is now looking at her sister the way that Mariah Carey looks at Whitney Houston and Tom Hanks looks at Michael Keaton (explaination here).
I think you are the first person other than me saying that “WTF” with Lunamaria going to Shinn, murderer of your sister and crush. Everyone else has thought that it was ok for her to cry on Shinn. Meyrin is the better Hawke sister.

Yeah, the yuck factor from Shinn is making it very tough for beleaguered Lunamaria fanboys like myself. >_< GSD 38) that Lunamaria might be turning into Flay. While I might be happier with that Shinn-wise, that won’t bode well for her survivability.
Phoenix512> Actually Omni has got dibs on calling “wtf” about Shinn-Lunamaria. And KarmaBurn called it “the worst idea of the season”. I’m not happy with it myself but I want to see where it’s going and what her real motivation actually is.
On that last note, the cut-off section (my bad) in my previous comment was trying to link Omni’s speculation in GSD 38 that Lunamaria might be trying to pull a Flay on Shinn.
Yeah, I was pretty much expecting it because GSD seems to parallel GS closely in many respects. Her kiss with Shinn in 38 was a little abrupt too…felt kind of like an awkward romance that was thrown in for the sake of maintaining viewer interest.
As usual though, each camp has their supporters, some more vocal than others it seems. On another note Zyl, the fact that Luna got the hand-me-down Gundam also doesn’t bode well for her survivability, so I guess she’s doubly hexed! Maybe two negatives will become a positive, and she will survive this ordeal to become happily reunited with Meyrin.
Shinn and Luna are both broken people. They need SOMEONE to latch on to to support themselves. Thus this “relationship”. Its going to burn VERY hot, and is going to end very badly.

People may think that Shinn and Luna being together is a bad idea, somethink like this has happen befor…when Kira lost Flay he lached on to Lacus and couldn’t be happier. Now that they have lost their loved ones it is the perfect time find each other. Since they have so much sadness and hate their love for each other should blossum. If anyone thinks otherwize I would like to hear it!

The Heck!? Gosh, Lunamaria sucks! I mean, Shinn just killed her sister and the guy she liked and she starts to cry to him? What a loser! and then she blames the death of Athrun and Meyrin on the Logos… lmao…
When I first read this Blog I could not believe it but know I thanking it for saving me a lot of accumulating emotional trouble, I investigated thus neglecting spoilers. I loved Lunamaria from the first time I saw her on GSD, Actually I watched the damn show just because of her 2nd the Mobile Suits. Call me unfair but I’m no longer interested in this series. Aside from the fact that my negative sentiments about the new “Main” charcter, how the shows’ story progressed and was carried out that is shared by many. I learned and saw on Youtube the Horror of how my beloved story turned out and her Kissing that Lunatic was like a dagger to the heart for me, her character’s decisions were of a lost little girl rather than a mature woman with a soliders’ instinct and whats worse she assumably ended up with if not most hated “Main Character” in the entire Gundam universe, and what is shocking is that he never died!! Talk about Bad weed that never dies. But please allow me to be fair to her I think she was deperate when things went bad to worst given the F*^&$%g circustances she was put into. I still believe she does not really love Shinn (I think it’s my heart talking here, what a nerd). I mean she had no options for comfort in the battlefield aside from that WEED. She could have comforted with someone else who she trust if she were given the chance,(In which the author intentionally and leisurely did not allow her to have) I praise the people for making Lunamaria Hawke, but I Damn them all the same for doing what they did to her thus branding her a BI to some fans of the show, unlike Mr Wonderful Shinn, Lunmaria before the traumatic experience that triggered her defensive emotions for self preservation, never displayed any negative attributes. “I have lost what little Fate I have in Destiny”. Glad I never bought any DVD’s of this or I may as well give them away again like what I did with CLAMP’s X OVA. Oh and a final thing, Kira’s crush on Flay turned into a DEBT when he failed to protect her father, he never really loved her that deeply, Oh and the Bed scene I think it was a move of an immature but natural reaction of a young man when a shattered girl clings to him for protection. Tears after all are a womans deadliest but beautiful weapon against good natured men (Except for Shinn, it’s more like misery likes company like of thing rather than a blossoming love story Lunamaria should have just cried hugging Mokona)Never forget a factor that this is a “war” Anime’ that made a twist when the put the elements of emotions in play with the viewers (I’m a victim here too by choice). And I think even before Flay died Kira already had feelings for Lacus w/c was different from Flay. Lunamaria could not protect herself from sadness, Shinn never recovered from the continous losses he had, now tell me how can they protect each other when they couldn’t help themselves? I think this is a very interesting (but painful conversation Lil Ze…) Thanks for the invite…^_^;
