The first real day of the Monaco Cup competition begins in this episode as all of the competing countries finally get their chance to show off their baking prowess. Pierrot Bolneze, the eccentric host of the Monaco Cup, introduces each team leading off with the French team, who is favored to win the competition. Meanwhile, Kawachi and Suwabara continue to squabble against each other about the Ronin baking incident, but Kazuma tries his best to keep the team together from emotional combustion.

Pierrot explains the rules for the preliminary round of competition. There will be two bakeoffs, each worth 5 points, and the combined scores of the top 16 countries will move to the next round. Thus, Kazuma and the gang can only hope that 8 points will be enough to carry them onto the next round assuming they put up perfect scores. Also, Pierrot explains that in the first round, water and any sort of flour can be used to bake the bread, but 3 of the ingredients used on each team will be determined by a roulette wheel. Although there’s an abundance of ingredients on the roulette wheel, only 2 of the 100 slots have eggs as the ingredients. Kazuma rolls his ball first, and comes up with eggs as the 1st ingredient! Thinking that their luck might have finally turned around, Kawachi non-chalantly sends his ball rolling on the wheel and comes up with……eggs Yakitate Japan 32 icon razz This sends Suwabara into a semi-rage but he gathers up his energy to show how he will guide the ball to an ingredient other than eggs. With an impressive dragon summoning, Suwabara sends the ball flying down on the roulette wheel where it lands on…..eggs Yakitate Japan 32 icon razz Kawachi just can’t believe how things are totally not going their way as he stairs at the hundreds of eggs given to them, but Kazuma assures the group that with Japan 21, a bread made completely from flour, water and eggs, they’ll be just fine. Kazuma quickly asks Pierrot for a particular flour, which Pierrot has brought out, and Team Japan gets to work on Japan 21. Eventually all 135 countries finish their bread, and Pierrot shows that he’s also capable of Kage Bushin no Jutsu as he splits himself into 135 so that he can judge all the breads. Of course, we’re left off with a cliffhanger just as Pierrot gets to Kazuma’s bread. Yakitate Japan 32 icon razz

Man, Pierrot is such a freaky character o_O

I stayed away from this anime for a long time because let’s face it, it is an anime about baking bread. Not the most exciting thing in the world I would say. But then I finally started watching and man.. They have done nothing but baking bread for these 32 episodes but I can’t remember the last time I laughed this much while watching any kind of movie or tv show. I am literally on the floor cringing from laughter every single time I watch an episode. Just awesome. :)
