You know it had to happen eventually! Looks like Adult Swim will begin showing episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion sometime in the near future. I know everyone loves to bash dubs, but I like what Adult Swim has been doing. They’ve been putting some really quality lineups out there, and I find their dubbing to be acceptable.
I used to be such a huge NGE fan, and I loved those Evanjellydonut fanfics, too.

You know, AS doesn’t produce their own dubs. Whoever licensed the show gets the dubs produced, and in this case it’s ADV. I don’t know if you’ve heard the dub, but Evangelion is one of their early dubs, and it shoooows… They take a lot of liberties with a show they definitely shouldn’t be taking liberties with. And of course, the voice acting is horrendous (Shinji, Ritsuko and Asuka in particular). Rei, Gendo and Fuyusuki I kind of like, and Misato is passable. The rest of the side character dubs, meh. The dub REALLY ruins the feel of the show (makes it sound like a comedy in my opinion).
I agree with you that the dubs AS shows are usually good, but unfortunately Evangelion will not be one of them.
I’m sure you’ve seen this before, but Slashdot had a pretty interesting discussion on this.
Apparently, they tried airing Neon Genesis in the UK, but it failed and the show got bumped to a 3am timespot. Similarly, they tried airing Gundam Seed on evenings, but it also got abysmal ratings. I guess the US doesn’t have a proportionately strong ‘giant robot genre’ fanbase T_T
PS: Totally agree with KTKore with regards to the voice acting.
NGE is still my favorite series, and I’m really glad to hear that Adult Swim is going to be airing this wonderful show. Yeah, the dubs of other shows have been pretty good (especially SC and FMA), and I’m just happy to be able to watch some of my favorite shows on tv.
