Buzzer Beater 12

Well, it’s finally time for the game against the Dayfield Sonics, and the Earth team is still undefeated at 4-0. However, the Sonics team has the best defensive player (their center, Kaiser), last year’s rebound king (power forward, Rigel), a captain that makes everyone better (Tachyon), and a good shooter (Spira, played by Tayuya). The real ace of the team, of course, is Julius, and in his second year, he’s already a starter on this top-notch team. During practice, Hideyoshi is rushing a bit as he remembers the thrashing that Julius gave him on the playground court, but DT gives him some words of encouragement. When the game starts, the Sonics jump out to a quick lead, before the coach of the Earth team wisely calls a timeout. Hideyoshi is subbed in for Lazuli, and DT approves because Hideyoshi is the only one that’s not intimidated by the Sonics. Hideyoshi and Julius quickly get under each other’s skin, but Hideyoshi’s offensive display brings the Earth team back into the game, before an amazing alley-oop from DT ties it up.

Not much to say about this episode, as there was quite a bit of flashback and stock footage used. It was nice to see DT getting along with Hideyoshi, but if you’ve read the manga, you know why. I’m not sure if I want the anime to end the same way, but I guess I wouldn’t be opposed to it. Hopefully we can get some original animation for the second half of the game as Hideyoshi and Julius continue to go at it. I think the Earth team would be in the lead, except that Julius at least understands help defense, whereas Hideyoshi only seems to understand matador defense.
