New Gold Standard

So I use Spam Karma 2.0 now to block spam, and it assigns numerical “Karma” values to every comment to measure how spammy the comment is. An approved comment usually has a karma of 0 or 1 (say when an author of the blog posts a comment), whereas the typical piece of spam has a karma between -10 and -20. Well, last night, we caught the big one. The most shamelessly spammy spam comment came in with a whopping karma of -1303.29!!! Hitting the post on Eyeshield 21, episode 1, it looks like Kungfucius managed to reel in the biggest sonuva spam ever to grace our database. This sick puppy packed in 94 unlinked text URLs to bring its total link coefficient to 70.4, well above the threshold of… 2. The author of the post, a bot by the name of “Fantasy Football” hawked everything from boots to meds and avian bird flu! The funny thing is that an hour later, the bot returned to post a second spam comment, because it’d forgotten to mention fantasy football in its first comment!

To get an idea of just how big a catch Kungfucius got, I think the previous high was like 85 or maybe 90. Wow, I am in awe *__*. The newest iteration of Spam Karma is a lot more flexible and gives me explainations for why every blocked comment was judged to be spam, so if you incorrectly get caught, just toss me a quick email and I should be able to re-enable your blocked comment. The general setting’s currently at “Kinda Mean”, but so far I haven’t had to up the bar to “Total Beeatch”.
