With Kazuma advancing to final four, it’s now Kawachi’s turn to make it through as he takes on pig boy Umino Katsuo. Kawachi notices that during his bake-off, Tsukino wasn’t around to cheer him on, but with some encouragement from Kazuma and Ken, Kawachi makes his world famous Chiffon Cake crab, complete with poke-action movement! However, Ryou didn’t seemed as impressed since Kawachi wasn’t quick to demonstrate his cake’s 1337 moves, but Ryou was sort of impressed at Katsuo’s “face” bread, which Katsuo dedicated to his wife as they both were infatuated and all over each other. Unable to stand all the flying heart action (and the fact that Dave didn’t even make a peep), Ryou awards the win to Kawachi Yakitate Japan 18 icon smile

During the bakeoff, we’re also introduced to Kunmuri Shigeru, who has strangely been able to make it to the final four via forfeit. But we quickly learn that Shigeru works for Yukino, the evil older sister of Tsukino who seems to want to stop at nothing to guarantee that Tsukino fails at everything. One thing though: wtf is Shigeru doing with pink hair as a male character o_O???

Also, we get to peer into a bit of Tsukino’s past and the struggle she has fought with her evil sister Yukino. Seriously, there’s nothing lower than taking the ashes of the deceased and flinging them around like it’s dirt, and unfortunately for Tsukino, that’s what Yukino did with the ashes of Tsukino’s mother. Upon learning this, Kazuma and Kawachi are now even more determined to win the competition not only for themselves, but for Tsukino’s sake. All of a sudden, Yakitate Japan takes on a more serious mood as the forces between the two sisters collide.

I like how the show pokes fun at itself, like when Kawachi says “Awww, come on, give me a reaction!” That brief crab imitation (or dare I say, imitation crab!) was pretty silly looking, especially with the grim-faced Kuro-yan doing it :)
