Beck 17

Kabitzin on April 6, 2005 · in Beck

Yukio finally buys the telecaster, and is so excited about playing it that he even skips a day of work. Later at school, he spots the girl from the donut shop; her name’s Masuoka Hiromi and she’s a rhythmic gymnast. Yukio cleverly causes her to fall down the stairs, and then sings her a ghetto version of Face, but with her name as the only lyrics. Yukio’s not the only one getting his game one, however, and when he returns the White Falcon to Saitoh, he finds that Saitoh has weaseled a pseudo-date with Momoko-sensei! Apparently, Saitoh has convinced Momoko that his considerable pr0n knowledge will help her through her tough times (brought on when someone found out she had worked at the lingerie Ram pub). Yukio even gets a little bit of revenge when first Maho blows off Yoshito (she chooses a Beck live over dinner with Yoshito), and then later when Maho gets slightly jealous of Hiromi. Later, Ryuusuke reveals that their CD has been selling well, but that he forgot to ask Alvin about royalties. Ryuusuke then tells Taira the story about how he and Eddie broke into a car and found Lucille and Beck.

When I saw that clip of Yoshito’s crappy drama, I felt like puking in my mouth. “Because of your victory, I can walk again”??? WTF is that all about. This was a decent episode, although I’m not sure what the point of Hiromi is. The slight love twistings definitely serve to remind us that not everything is about the band, and that life doesn’t stay still while you’re striving for your goals.
