Rukia finally decides the best course of action to keep her friends out of danger is to run away by herself, but she quickly finds herself pursued by some elite Death Gods from the Kuchiki school of Death Gods. Abarai Renji and Byakuya, the supposed head of the school, finally catch up to Rukia, and they attempt to force her to reveal who had taken her powers. Rukia refuses to budge, which sets Renji off to kill her. Fortunately for Rukia, Ishida happened to be in the area and attempts to stop the elite guards; however, he finds himself beat down by Renji rather easily. Meanwhile, Ichigo, with the help of Kon, finally figures out what Rukia was doing, and Ichigo goes into Death God mode to search for her. He eventually catches up to them, but Ichigo also seems to find himself outgunned by the trash-talking Renji as Renji strikes him with 2 critical blows. It seems for the first time, Ichigo may finally have met his match in the battle of the Death Gods.
