GaaaannntZ!

by Ender on December 7, 2004 in Random Stuff

On a sidenote, I’ve been keeping up with the anime version of Gantz, and I must say that the show is incredible, but is definitely not for everyone with its nauseating amount of blood and violence. Perhaps the Elfen Lied crowd would find it appealing, though its style differs quite a bit. Somehow, the anime manages to capture the raw intensity of life and death situations through an ingenious combination of camera work, and gory imagery. Unfortunately as a result, it’s also quite depressing. Really, really, really depressing. I mean, I’m a sucker for depressing shows, but the recent episodes 20-21 were almost too much! Kabitzin, do not watch this show or else you will undergo withdrawal and refuse to go to work. And then Bunky would get on your case, and that would be even more frightening.

I figured the series would wrap up pretty soon after ep 21, but then the end of episode 22 made my jaw drop. Damn, they’re gonna make everyone suffer till the bitter end GaaaannntZ! icon sad The twist was sheer genius, imposing an unthinkable moral dilemma. It almost makes me want to check out the manga, save for the fact that I can barely handle the angst of the anime. Plus, I don’t think anything could quite replace the superb animated action scenes.

ender, you should really read the manga if you love the anime. While they follow the manga pretty closely, the manga is a bit more graphic and the art is just beatiful. :D

band of hawks are doing the HQ version (they’re way behind shockwave) while Shockwave (I think) has been doing low-quailty scans but is pretty up to date? If you just want to read through the gantz manga quick, get Shockwave’s version but if you want to truly enjoy the art def. get bank of hawks/omanga’ version.

Actually Shocwave’s version looks just fine.

And the manga really is better, episodes 22-26 are in fact filler episodes not based on the manga. (and IMO: stupid.) The manga goes on for several more story arcs and is still running…

Yeah, the manga is definitely better. But the anime isn’t that bad either, except I’d like to watch the uncut version of the first season. Yay to blood and gore.
