Ahhhh…gotta love those 1 hour specials ^_^ Tsunade gives Shikamaru his first real Chounin mission to rally up some troops and go after Sasuke’s abductors. However, Shikamaru’s troop options are limited to Genins as the other higher-level ninjas are either busy or watching over Konoha (as if Shikamaru’s mission isn’t that important, but then again, we get to see our favorite heroes in action). So Shikamaru quickly picks up Naruto, Chouji, Kiba (and Akamaru), and Neji for his team, and he organizes them appropriately to chase down their enemy. Rock Lee, although he successfully survived his surgery, finds himself left out of the group since his back still needs time to recover.
Meanwhile, the Sound Four baggage up Sasuke so that he can power up to level 2 curse seal, and they manage to pwn Raidou and Genma, 2 of Konoha’s Jounins, using their respective level 2 seals. The fight between the Jounins and Sound Four allow the Genins to catch up, but the Genins find themselves in for a surprise just as they begin to pounce on the Sound Four.
Again, as many have pointed out, the animation has picked up significantly, and this episode is no exception. As David pointed out, the Genins seem to be over their heads when it comes to fighting the Sound Four since the Sound took out the Jounins. But, we must remember that the Sound Four did exhaust themselves in that fight, so that may be the crack the Genins need to overcome the overwhelming odds!
