Episode 8 starts innocently enough with some sis-con and fiery hot soup, but quickly turns serious. Mai falls down a hole in the library, dragging Tate, Reito, and Takumi with her. Nagi proclaims that it’s time for Mai to decide what is most important to her, and an ORPHAN attacks Tate and Takumi. Mai has no choice but to reveal her powers and summon Kagutsuchi (thank goodness for that flame shield) in order to save everyone. In a parallel storyline, Akane gets majorly screwed over by the whole HiME gig. Akane had been inspired by Mai and finally told her boyfriend Kazu about her HiME powers. He accepts her and she’s really happy. Until she finds out that the ORPHAN that she and her CHILD Harry just vaccuumed was nothing more than a test. Apparently Miyu is actually MIYU as in Multiple Intelligential Yggdrasil Unit (WTF, I have no clue what this means either). In other words, she’s a HiME slaying robo-chick sent by her “Father” from SEARRS. She easily takes down Harry, stripping Akane of her powers. Even crazier, however, is when Akane finds out just what she wagered to become a HiME.
Whoa… What can you say when even the bastardly Nagi is at a loss for words? The awesome music fit in perfectly with Akane’s plight, and I was horrified when Akane went from frantically mumbling about how she was going to die to realizing what was really going to happen. Even that scream when Harry became a shish-kabob was perfect. I really never expected this series to become so deep. However, since Akane is a completely minor character, her numbing loss doesn’t even come into play in the next episode, which will feature lots of swimsuits and service. I really love the previews, lol.

“In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil (“The Terrible One’s Horse”), also called the World Tree, is the giant ash tree that links and shelters all the worlds. Beneath the three roots the realms of Asgard, Jotunheim, and Niflheim are located. Three wells lie at its base: the Well of Wisdom (MÃmisbrunnr), guarded by Mimir; the Well of Fate (Urdarbrunnr), guarded by the Norns; and the Hvergelmir (Roaring Kettle), the source of many rivers.
Four deer run across the branches of the tree and eat the buds; they represent the four winds. There are other inhabitants of the tree, such as the squirrel Ratatosk (“swift teeth”), a notorious gossip, and Vidofnir (“tree snake”), the golden cock that perches on the topmost bough. The roots are gnawed upon by Nidhogg and other serpents. On the day of Ragnarok, the fire giant Surt will set the tree on fire. ”
so yea. My guess of what MIYU is basically an AI robot with direct access to all of SEARRS mainframe/information. Odds are, based on this episode, she gathers info on all the HiMEs and enacts counter-measures to destroy them (or their CHILD at least). In that sense, MIYU would be an “all-knowing” outlet of knowledge on HiMEs.
btw, did you see when Miyu did that foot-bulletshot-kick? Pretty frickin’ cool that she’s basically an weapon of (HiME) destruction!
After Koi Kaze, I don’t think ‘innocent’ and ‘sis-con’ should be found on the same sentence
(that’s just me of course)
Could Miyu be the Child of Alyssa who’s may be a HiME?
stripey, interesting theory but I doubt it. Based on what we’ve seen so far, most CHILDs are animal-like than anything else (except for Nao’s). Plus, *if* Miyu was Alyssa’s CHILD I doubt we would have seen that how Matrixish/computer thingie.
Though I wouldn’t be surprise if Alyssa was a HiME; she would be the youngest thus far
(also considering her VA is Yuko Miyamura, it’s surprising she’s doing a “innocent child” role. Most of the chars she voices are pretty gun-ho)
I find it highly, highly unlikely that Alyssa is a HiME, judging by what is shown in episode 10…
Dang, I wonder if there is another faction called ROBINSONS-MAY. That would be just too cool.
